Encapsulation cleaning, or encap, is a low moisture carpet cleaning method that uses specialized chemistry and mechanical agitation to encapsulate dirt particles into dry crystals, which are then vacuumed away after drying. The result is dramatically faster dry times compared to traditional hot water extraction, making encap the preferred interim maintenance method for high-traffic commercial spaces that can't afford long downtime.

VLM machines, short for very low moisture, are the primary tool for encap work. The two main types are orbital floor machines, which use an oscillating pad motion for gentle but effective agitation, and counter-rotating brush machines, known as CRB machines, which use dual brushes spinning in opposite directions for deeper fiber penetration. Both are effective encap and VLM carpet cleaning platforms depending on your carpet type and soil level.
