How to Choose a Tornado Floor Scrubber

Tornado's range splits into four sizes. Seven compact machines with 13 to 18 inch paths fit restrooms, kitchens and small shops, like the other compact floor scrubbers we carry. Eight walk-behind floor scrubbers run 18 to 30 inches for schools, offices and grocery aisles. Two stand-ons and three ride-on floor scrubbers cover warehouses, malls and other open floors.

Brush assist or traction drive. On a brush-assist Tornado walk behind floor scrubber, like the BR 18/11 or BD 20/11L, the brush helps pull the machine while you steer. The BD 20/11LT, BR 22/14, OB 20/14, BD 26/20, OB 28/20 and BD 30/20 add traction drive, so you stop pushing on long routes, and Tornado rates the OB models for 10 percent ramps.

Cylindrical, disk or orbital. Cylindrical brushes on the Vortex and BR models dig into grout and textured tile, and the Vortex models also take carpet and escalator brushes. Disk decks on the Microburst, BD and BDSO models suit smooth sealed floors and take pad drivers. The OB 20/14 and OB 28/20 reach square into corners with a rectangular orbital head that also removes finish. Our guide to disk, cylindrical and orbital scrubbers goes deeper.

Corded or battery. The Vortex 13, Vortex 18 and BR 16/3 plug in, so you never wait on a charge. The BR 13/2, BD 14/4 and BD 17/6 ship with AGM batteries and a charger, and the Microburst comes with or without its lithium battery. Larger machines come machine only or with lead acid, AGM, gel or TPPL batteries, and Tornado gives TPPL packs a 3 year replacement term. Our floor scrubber battery guide explains your options.

Send us your square footage, floor type and cleaning schedule, and you will get a Tornado floor scrubber suggestion before you order. You can also reach us through our contact page or at (855) 601-5678. Settle the spec before the box is opened, because our return policy takes back machines within 30 days of delivery only if they are unused, in new condition and in their original packaging.

Is a Tornado Auto Scrubber the Right Machine?

Compact machines win on reach but give up brush pressure, tank size and runtime, a trade-off cleaning crews raise again and again. If most of your floor is open, a walk-behind finishes faster, even in a small building; see the best floor scrubber for a small business. Tornado makes no robot, so if you want one that cleans while your crew works, look at autonomous floor scrubbers. The rest of the line is on our Tornado vacuums and cleaning equipment page.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tornado Floor Scrubbers

Who makes Tornado floor scrubbers?

Tornado Industries, based in Fenton, Missouri, part of Tacony's commercial floor care group alongside Powr-Flite and CleanMax. Your warranty labor runs through authorized Tornado service centers in the US and Canada. If you have a technical question, Tornado's technical service team at 1-800-4Tacony is, in our experience, genuinely competent. For the company's history, plants and full warranty, see our guide to who makes Tornado.

Which Tornado floor scrubber is best for a small space?

A compact one, chosen by power. Cordless around tables and stalls, the 40 pound Microburst is the easiest to handle, and the BR 13/2, BD 14/4 and BD 17/6 carry bigger tanks; the BD 17/6's squeegee swivels to dry as you back out. If you always have an outlet close, the corded Vortex 13, Vortex 18 and BR 16/3 cost less and never need charging.

How long does a Tornado scrubber run on a charge?

Tornado rates most walk-behinds and riders at about 3 hours, and the BDSO 20/21 and BR 33/30 at about 4. Compacts run shorter: an hour or more for the BR 13/2, about 1.15 hours for the BD 17/6 and up to 2 hours for the Microburst in eco mode. Your floor and battery type change real runtime, so plan a margin.

What warranty comes with a Tornado floor scrubber?

Tornado's May 2026 warranty schedule gives every model it lists 2 years of labor, done by an authorized Tornado service center. Parts run 2 or 4 years by model, most add 10 years on rotomolded tanks, and the OB models add lifetime isolators. The table shows each model.
