Tornado® BR 33/30 Ride-On Cylindrical Floor Scrubber, 33", 30 Gal

It's 10 p.m. in a 120,000-square-foot distribution center. Two custodians are pushing 20-inch walk-behind scrubbers down the main aisles, and at a realistic 9,000 to 12,600 square feet an hour each, they'll still be out there at 3 a.m. Then one of them calls in sick. The Tornado BR 33/30 is a ride-on floor scrubber with a 33-inch cylindrical brush deck, rated at 55,952 square feet an hour. Take off the 30% to 50% every scrubber loses to turns and refills, and one operator still covers that same floor in about 3 to 4.5 hours.

Two cylindrical brushes spin at 785 RPM and reach into grout lines, quarry tile and textured safety flooring that flat pads skate over. A stainless steel pre-sweep catches loose grit in a tray before the squeegee gets to it. The 30-gallon solution tank and 32-gallon recovery tank keep refills to a minimum, and the 36-volt battery system runs 4 to 6 hours on a charge, enough for most single-building night shifts.

Which One Do I Need: Machine Only, Lead Acid or AGM?

The machine is the same in all three. What changes is whether it arrives with its three 12-volt batteries and a charger, and what kind of batteries they are.

• Lead Acid Battery (3 x 12V) + Charger, #99785C if you want the lowest cost to get running and someone on your crew can check battery water. Tornado's manual asks for an electrolyte check every 20 charges, topped up with distilled water. For most buyers, this is the one we recommend.

• AGM Sealed Battery (3 x 12V) + Charger, #99785CG if nobody will ever water a battery, or the machine is stored somewhere acid fumes and spills are a problem. AGM batteries are sealed and maintenance-free. Be aware the AGM package costs $5,213 more than lead acid here, so it only pays back if skipped watering would otherwise ruin your batteries.

• No Battery (Machine Only), #99785 if you already own a 36-volt battery set and charger, or you buy batteries from a local supplier. The machine leaves the factory set for lead acid batteries, and Tornado's manual shows how to switch the battery card to its gel setting for sealed batteries.

BR 33/30 or BR 28/27?

Pick the BR 33/30 when your floor is big and open with long straight runs: warehouses, distribution centers, supermarkets, airport concourses, exhibit halls and plant floors. Pick the BR 28/27 when aisles are tighter or the floor is broken up by racks and fixtures. It's 5 inches narrower, costs less, and Tornado lists more brush pressure for it, which helps on heavily soiled spots. The Owner's Insights on the BR 33/30

The BR 33/30 is the biggest Tornado scrubber I sell, and it earns its place in one kind of building: big, open floor with long straight runs. Before you order, measure two things. First, the way in. The body is 36 inches wide and the squeegee spans 45, so it won't pass through a standard single door. Plan on a dock door or double doors. Second, your narrowest aisle. It turns in a 6-foot radius, but if your floor is chopped up by racks and displays, the BR 28/27 will get more done per hour of real work.

Day to day, it's simple. Turn the key, press automatic mode, and the brushes, solution and vacuum all start together. Tip the seat platform forward and the three batteries sit right underneath. On battery packages, I'd steer most people to lead acid. AGM only pays for itself if nobody on your crew will ever check water levels.

• 33-inch cylindrical brush deck at 785 RPM. The brushes reach into grout, quarry tile, pavers and raised rubber flooring, so textured floors come out clean in one pass.

• Stainless steel pre-sweep with a collection tray. Loose grit goes into a tray you empty at the end of the shift instead of being dragged under the squeegee.

• Automatic mode. One button starts the brushes, solution and vacuum, the motors ramp up gradually, and the squeegee lifts on its own when you back up.

• 30-gallon solution and 32-gallon recovery tanks. Fewer trips to the fill station and the drain on a large floor, in rotomolded polyethylene that Tornado covers for 10 years.

• Four-sided parabolic rear squeegee blade. A quick-release lever lets you change blades in 10 seconds or less, and each blade gives you four edges before it's done.

• 36-volt power, two travel speeds and a roll bar. 4 to 6 hours of run time, 2.2 mph for detail work and 3.8 mph for open runs, with a roll bar over the operator.

How to Run and Care for Your BR 33/30

Fill the solution tank shortly before you clean, not hours ahead, so the filter doesn't scale up. Choose automatic mode for everyday scrubbing, adjust the brush pressure from the control panel, and set the solution flow to match. If the display flashes a pressure warning, turn the pressure down a step. The battery display counts down in steps of 10%, and when it reaches 10 the brushes stop while the vacuum keeps running and the drive keeps working, so you can pick up the water and drive back to the charger. At the end of every shift: drain the recovery tank with the rear drain hose, rinse the tank and the suction filter, empty and rinse the pre-sweep collection tray, rinse the brushes, and wipe down the squeegee. Once a week, check the rear blade and turn it to a fresh edge, check the side rubbers and flush the squeegee hose. Don't wash the machine with a pressure washer. Recharge soon after the low-battery warning starts blinking, and never leave the batteries flat for more than two weeks. One thing no scrubber replaces: large debris like pallet wrap, strapping or wood chips should be picked up or swept before you ride. The pre-sweep is made for loose grit, not trash.

What the Tornado Warranty Covers

Under the Tornado Commercial Limited Warranty (January 2025), the BR 33/30 is covered for 4 years on parts, 10 years on the rotomolded body and 2 years on labor. Lead acid and AGM batteries are replaced if they fail in the first 90 days, then pro-rated for the rest of the first year. Repairs are evaluated and done by an authorized Tornado service center, and Tornado prepays ground freight on eligible claims. Wear items such as brushes, pads and squeegee blades aren't covered.
