Handheld Floor Scrubbers

A handheld floor scrubber puts a powered brush or pad on a handle, so you can scrub stair treads, baseboards, grout lines and the corners around toilets that a commercial floor scrubber can't reach. Choose the JET3 with built-in spray, the M3 with three handle lengths or the low-profile SHOCK, all cordless. Questions? Use our contact page or call (855) 601-5678.

All three are made by MotorScrubber and run on the same 12 V 7 Ah sealed battery, so one 12V7ADC spare battery and the MS1580US charger serve a mixed crew. The JET3 and SHOCK share the same spray backpack, while the M3 backpack is lighter and carries no bottle or pump. Specs come from MotorScrubber's website and brochures.

How to Choose a Handheld Floor Scrubber

A handheld scrubber is a detail tool. It handles the edges, steps and fixtures, while a compact floor scrubber or a walk-behind does the open floor and picks up the water. These are the choices that separate the three machines.

Rotating brush or oscillating pad. The JET3 and M3 spin a 7.1 inch brush at 360 rpm, and MotorScrubber designs them to reach into grooves and grout up to 10 mm deep. Pick one of these for grout lines, quarry tile and textured anti-slip floors. The SHOCK doesn't spin. Its 9.8 inch pad oscillates, which suits smooth and lightly textured floors, and its 4.1 inch head slides under partitions and furniture. It is still a handheld scrubber, because you steer it by hand on a handle with the battery on your back, just like the other two.

Spray or no spray. The JET3 and SHOCK spray solution from a 1 liter bottle in the backpack, so you wet only the spot you scrub. The M3 has no spray. You pre-apply your chemical with a bottle or pump sprayer and let it dwell, which many crews do anyway on heavy grout.

Handle length. The JET3 and SHOCK come with a telescopic 27.6 to 55.1 inch handle. The M3 lets you choose a solid 15 inch handle for sinks, toilets and stair treads, that same medium telescopic handle for floors and baseboards, or a 47 to 94 inch handle for high walls and tall showers.

Runtime. The JET3 and M3 run 2 to 3.5 hours per charge and the SHOCK about 50 minutes, and each battery recharges in up to 4 hours. For a full shift on the SHOCK, keep a charged spare battery in the cart. With the MSS228 SAE to DC adaptor, the charger tops up the spare outside the backpack while you keep working.

Brushes and pads. The JET3 and M3 kits ship with a medium duty brush and a pad holder. Add the tile and grout brush for stained grout, or the red stair and baseboard brush for the JET3 to scrub a tread and riser at once. The SHOCK uses its own pad range on a magnetic holder.

Warranty. MotorScrubber covers each machine for 1 year, extended to 3 years on parts when you register its serial number.

Not sure which one fits? Send us your floor types, the areas you need to reach and how often you clean them through our contact page or at (855) 601-5678, and we'll suggest a machine. Machines can be returned within 30 days after receipt in new condition, with all original packaging and accessories and no signs of use, under our return policy.

When a Handheld Scrubber Beats a Mop or an Auto Scrubber

A mop pushes dirty water into grout and corners, and an auto scrubber's deck can't reach a toilet base, a stair riser or a cove base. A handheld scrubber covers that ground without kneeling: restrooms around fixtures and under partitions, stairs tread and riser, baseboards and cove base, showers and locker rooms, commercial kitchens under equipment and along quarry tile grout, and tiled walls. It replaces scrubbing on your knees with a hand brush or a drill brush.

Where it stops being the right tool. None of these machines picks up water, and a 7 to 10 inch head is slow on open floor. Once the open area outweighs the edges, step up to one of our commercial floor scrubbers, which scrub and vacuum in one pass. To lift the slurry after detail work, use a commercial wet dry vacuum with a squeegee tool.

For restrooms cleaned top to bottom with spray and vacuum recovery, see our restroom cleaning machines. For tile and grout across larger floors, compare our tile and grout cleaning tools. Our guides on how to clean commercial tile floors and how to clean a restroom cover the full routine.

Handheld Floor Scrubber FAQ

Does a handheld floor scrubber pick up the dirty water?

No. The JET3, M3 and SHOCK scrub, and the JET3 and SHOCK also spray, but none of them recovers water. You use little solution on detail work, and MotorScrubber says the SHOCK pad handles most hard floors with water alone, so a pass with a mop or a wet vac finishes the area. If you need scrubbing and recovery in one pass, a compact floor scrubber does both.

Can a handheld floor scrubber clean stairs and baseboards?

Yes, and these are the jobs most crews buy one for. The SHOCK head pivots 90 degrees to go from tread to riser without lifting off, and it flips vertical for baseboards, with rubber glide wheels that keep the drive 2 mm off the wall. On the JET3, the red stair brush scrubs a tread and riser at once. Take the SHOCK's 4 lb weight kit out for stairs, so the machine is easier to handle.

Will a handheld scrubber clean dirty grout?

Yes, with a rotating brush. The JET3 and M3 reach grout up to 10 mm deep, and the tile and grout brush is MotorScrubber's most abrasive. Apply your grout cleaner, let it dwell for the time on its label, then scrub and rinse. The SHOCK pad is made for smooth and lightly textured floors with texture up to about 3 mm, so it is the weaker choice for deep grout lines.

Is an oscillating scrubber still a handheld floor scrubber?

Yes. Handheld describes how you work the machine: one person steers the head on a handle, the battery rides in a backpack, and nothing rolls on its own. The SHOCK fits that, even though its pad oscillates at up to 83 scrubs per second instead of spinning like the brushes on the JET3 and M3. Its glide wheels let the pad clean into 90 degree corners, while a rotating brush digs deeper into grout.
