Commercial Wet Dry Vacuums

A commercial wet dry vacuum picks up what an upright or backpack vacuum can't: standing water, spilled mop solution, floor stripper slurry and wet grit, plus the dry debris around them. You can choose Tornado, Powr-Flite, Viper, Clarke or NaceCare, from the compact 6-gallon CV 570 to 18 and 20-gallon machines with a front-mount squeegee, all part of our commercial vacuums range.

How to Choose a Commercial Wet Vac

Size the tank by what it holds wet. The label shows the drum, not what you can pick up. Tornado lists 5 gallons of wet working capacity on the Taskforce 10, 10 on the Taskforce 15 and 15 on the Taskforce 20, and Viper rates the Shovelnose SN18WD at 18 gallons wet. At over 8 pounds a gallon, plan how you will empty it.

Choose a front squeegee or a wand. The Taskforce 20 comes with Tornado's FM100 front-mount squeegee and the Shovelnose with a 24-inch assembly, 30-inch optional, so you pick up water as you walk. That clears open floor far faster than working a wand. The Taskforce 15 and Powr-Flite PF57 take an optional front mount. The Taskforce 10, Clarke Maxxi II 35 and NaceCare CV 570 work through the wand, with a squeegee or rubber strip floor tool for your spills, drains and corners.

Pick stainless, poly or foam. The Taskforce 15, Taskforce 20 and PF57 tanks are 18-gauge stainless steel, which takes knocks and wipes clean. The Taskforce 10's polyethylene tank won't dent and keeps it at 29 pounds, the Maxxi II 35 weighs 25, and the CV 570's structural foam tank won't dent or rust.

Compare waterlift, not peak horsepower. Waterlift, how hard the motor pulls liquid up your hose, matters most for wet pickup, and airflow matters more for dry debris. The CV 570 leads at 100 inches, the Taskforce models and the Shovelnose pull 90, the PF57 80 and the Maxxi II 35 72. The dual-motor PF57 leads on airflow, at 192 CFM.

Check cord, hose and weight. Your cord runs 30 feet on the Taskforce models and the PF57, 42 on the CV 570 and 50 on the Maxxi II 35 and the Shovelnose. Hoses run 6 to 10 feet and weights 25 to 78 pounds. The Taskforce 15, Taskforce 20 and PF57 tilt and pour, and the Shovelnose rolls on 10-inch wheels made for stairs.

Commercial Wet Dry Vacuum with Squeegee: When It Pays Off

A squeegee model earns its price when a mop and wand can't keep up. Stripping day is the classic case: custodians commonly pick up stripper slurry with a wet vac, and a front squeegee lets you clear the room in one pass before you finish the edges with the wand. A burst pipe or a soaked winter entrance is the other. If you strip once or twice a year, a wand machine does the job for less.

Wet Dry Vac, Floor Scrubber or Flood Pumper?

A wet dry vac picks up liquid; it doesn't clean the floor. If you mop a large hard floor and then vacuum the water, a floor scrubber does both in one pass. For flooding beyond a few tank loads, a flood pumper pumps water out through a garden hose, so you never stop to empty it. Wet carpet needs carpet extractors, and daily dry vacuuming suits a commercial backpack vacuum.

If your job calls for an industrial wet dry vacuum with a 55-gallon drum, three-phase power or certified hazardous dust filtration, you need a bigger class of machine than these heavy duty facility vacs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Commercial Wet Dry Vacuums

What is the best commercial wet dry vacuum?

The one that matches your biggest wet job. For open floor and stripping days, pick the Tornado Taskforce 20 or the Viper Shovelnose SN18WD, which adds a 50-foot cord. For high-volume pickup, the dual-motor Powr-Flite PF57 moves the most air. For restrooms and spot spills, the 25-pound Clarke Maxxi II 35 is easiest to carry, and the Taskforce 10 and 15 sit between them.

Which commercial wet dry vac has the strongest suction?

By waterlift, the NaceCare CV 570, at 100 inches against 90 on the Taskforce models and the Shovelnose. By airflow, the dual-motor Powr-Flite PF57, at 192 CFM. On a big spill, though, a 24-inch front squeegee on a larger tank usually finishes before a stronger motor on a hand wand.

Is a commercial wet vac worth it over a hardware-store model?

For daily use, yes. You get 30 to 50-foot cords and stainless tanks on the Taskforce 15, Taskforce 20 and PF57. Tornado and Clarke publish part numbers for filters, hoses and tools, so you replace a worn part, not the vac.

Can I clean carpet or upholstery with a commercial wet dry vac?

Not properly. It pulls standing water out of your carpet, which is worth doing fast after a leak, but it can't rinse the fibers. For upholstery, use a portable carpet extractor. The guide on using a wet vac as a carpet extractor explains the limits.

Can a commercial wet dry vacuum pick up drywall or concrete dust?

Light cleanup, yes, but fine dust loads a standard dry filter fast and your suction drops with it. The Clarke Maxxi II 35 takes an optional H13 HEPA cartridge. For sanding, cutting or grinding dust, use a vacuum sold with HEPA or dust-class filtration.
