Tynex Brushes for Deep Cleaning With Your Tornado BR 460

Your Tornado BR 460 ESC escalator cleaner ships with white nylon brushes, and they handle the routine sweep. When the tread grooves are packed with ground-in grit and stains, you need more bite. This set holds two genuine Tornado 90081 Tynex brushes, one left and one right, the heavy-duty option Tornado lists for the BR 460.

Tynex is a nylon bristle with abrasive grit built into the filament, so every turn of the brush scrubs as well as sweeps. The BR 460 spins it at 290 RPM through the grooves while its twin vacuum motors pull the loosened dirt straight into the bag.

When to Use the Tynex Set

Tornado offers two brush sets for the BR 460: nylon for routine cleaning and Tynex for aggressive cleaning. Most crews run the nylon set day to day and switch to Tynex for periodic deep cleans, when the nylon no longer lifts the dirt out of the grooves.

Use Tynex on bare aluminum treads only. The abrasive grit can scratch painted, coated or powder-coated steps. If you're not sure what your escalator has, try the brushes on a small area first, or ask the escalator's service company.

How to Fit the Tynex Brushes

Unplug the machine first. Release the two locking pins and raise the top cover against the handle. Disconnect the two hoses from the brush cowl and tip the cowl forward to reach the spindles.

Take the retaining clips off the spindle ends, slide each brush on so its narrow slot engages the drive nib, and refit the clips. Close the cowl, reconnect the hoses, then close the cover and lock the pins.

Each brush is marked L or R for its side, as seen from the operator's position. Swap them and the machine pushes debris out to the sides instead of into the vacuum.

The Owner's Insights on BR 460 Tynex Brushes

I'd keep both sets with the machine: nylon on for the nightly routine, Tynex on the shelf for the deep clean. The habit that makes either set last is in Tornado's manual: never store the BR 460 with the brushes fitted, because it damages them. After each job, pull the brushes, rinse them under running water and let them dry.

Keep the job dry, too. The BR 460 is a dry machine, and Tornado only allows a light hand spray of cleaner on stains, never a soaked escalator. Looking after several escalators or moving walkways? Call (855) 601-5678 and we'll help you plan spare brushes for the fleet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Tynex and the nylon brushes?

The BR 460 ships with white nylon brushes (05-4096-0000) for routine cleaning. The Tynex set has abrasive grit built into the bristle, so it scrubs harder and is meant for periodic deep cleaning of heavily soiled treads.

Can I use Tynex brushes on any escalator?

Use them on bare aluminum treads only. The abrasive grit can scratch painted, coated or powder-coated steps. If you're not sure what your treads are, try a small area first or check with the escalator's service company.

Do I get both brushes?

Yes. The set includes two brushes, one left and one right, and the BR 460 needs both. Each brush is marked L or R; fit them on the matching side as seen from the operator's position, or the machine pushes debris to the sides instead of into the vacuum.

Is 90081 the same part as 05-4097-0000?

Yes. Tacony lists 90081 as the replacement for 05-4097-0000, the Tynex brush set number printed in older BR 460 manuals.

How do I make the brushes last?

Take them off after every job. Tornado's manual says never to store the machine with the brushes fitted, because that damages them. Rinse the brushes under running water and let them dry before the next use.
