How to Choose Tornado Cleaning Equipment

Start with the job, then pick the line. Our Tornado floor scrubbers and Tornado carpet extractors pages compare every model side by side.

Hard floors you clean every day. The corded Vortex 13, Vortex 18 and BR 16/3 fit restrooms, kitchens and small shops. Battery walk-behinds take over in schools and grocery aisles, and the BDSO 27/28 stand-on and BR 28/27 ride-on cover warehouses and mall corridors. Paths run from 13 to 28 inches, so measure your narrowest aisle first.

Carpet. For daily soil, you can pick a corded Deluxe CVD or CK ULW 13/1 upright, a cordless Roam or Strike upright, or a cordless Zephyr or Pac-Vac 6 Roam backpack. The CK3030 and the battery Tempest cover wide open carpet in fewer passes. For deep cleaning, the Marathon extractors carry 9 to 20 gallons. None of them heats water, so for hot-water extraction look at our heated carpet extractors.

Finish care and specialty jobs. The 175 RPM M Series and Brute Force Tornado floor machines, the cordless Battery Glazer 17 burnisher, Taskforce wet/dry vacuums, Windshear air movers and cleaners for escalators, steam and restrooms round out the line.

Corded or battery. Corded machines never stop for a charge. Battery machines move freely around people and furniture. Many battery models are sold as machine only, with batteries as an option, so check the variant you pick. Our floor scrubber battery guide compares the types.

Not sure which Tornado machine fits your facility? Tell us your square footage, floor type and how often you clean, and we will suggest one before you order. Reach us through our contact page or at (855) 601-5678. Settle the spec before the box is opened, because our return policy takes back machines within 30 days of delivery only if they are unused, in new condition and in their original packaging.

Tornado Warranty, Parts and Service

Tornado's warranty terms vary by model. On the Tornado machines we carry, labor is covered for 2 years on every model except the Windshear air movers, at 1 year. Machine parts are covered for 1 to 4 years. Half of our Tornado models add 10 years on rotomolded parts such as tanks, and the OB 20/14 has a lifetime warranty on its isolators. The full terms are in Tornado's warranty policy.

Warranty repairs go through Tornado's authorized service centers, and you can find the nearest one through Tornado's technical service line at 1-800-4Tacony. Wear parts such as bags, belts, filters, brushes, pads and squeegees are not covered, so keep spares on hand. You will find Tornado brushes, hoses, filter bags, batteries and chargers in the grid above.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tornado

Who makes Tornado vacuums and floor machines?

Tornado Industries. The company started in 1927 as Breuer Electric Manufacturing, and Tacony Corporation acquired it in 2007. Tornado now runs as a subsidiary in Tacony's commercial floor care division, based at the Tacony headquarters in Fenton, Missouri, and it builds commercial and industrial cleaning equipment rather than household machines. Our guide on whether Tornado is a good brand covers its plants, the current warranty and what owners say.

Are Tornado vacuums good for commercial use?

Yes, for the jobs they are built for. Custodial crews are split on Tornado vacuum cleaners as a whole, but a clear pattern runs through their experience: the corded uprights earn praise for years of service with routine care, and several of the complaints trace back to skipped maintenance. Change belts, bags and filters on schedule, and pick a corded model if your crew runs the vacuum all shift.

Do I need to register my Tornado machine for the warranty?

It is not required, but Tornado encourages it. Register the machine on Tornado's website when it arrives and keep your invoice, because the warranty covers the original purchaser only. Tornado says registration helps it assist you faster, and if something fails within the warranty period, your local authorized dealer or service center starts the claim.
