Clarke Auto Tension Brush Drive Belt for the EX40 16ST and 18LX Carpet Extractors, 56315321

On the Clarke EX40, a small brush motor in the base turns the floating brush through one belt: this 56315321 auto tension poly-V belt. It's the same belt on both models, the EX40 16ST and the EX40 18LX.
If you hear the brush motor running but the brush won't spin, or it stalls as soon as it touches the carpet, a stretched, slipping or broken belt is one of the first things to check.
Auto tension. Clarke's parts list calls it an auto tension belt, so there's no tensioner to adjust.
Poly-V profile. Ribbed to run on the Poly-V sheaves on the brush motor and brush drive spindle.
One part, both models. Fits the EX40 16ST and the EX40 18LX.
Turn the power switch off and unplug the machine. The belt sits under the belt cover on the base, between the brush motor and the brush drive spindle. The EX40 parts manual on this page shows where it runs. If you'd rather have it fitted for you, an authorized Nilfisk service center can do it. Belts are wear items and aren't covered by Nilfisk's machine warranty except for manufacturing defects.
Worn bristles cause poor cleaning too. If the brush turns but the carpet still looks dirty, compare it with a new brush assembly: 16-inch for the EX40 16ST or 18-inch for the EX40 18LX.

Yes. Clarke's EX40 parts manual lists the same belt for the 16ST and the 18LX.
The brush. It runs from the 1/3 hp brush motor to the brush drive spindle.
Clarke lists it as an auto tension belt, and the parts manual shows no tensioner to adjust.
Only for manufacturing defects. Nilfisk treats belts as wear items.
