Bring the Shine Back to Stone and Concrete With Water

Terrazzo, marble and polished concrete lose their shine to foot traffic, and the usual fix is a coat of finish that has to be stripped later. Diamond pads take a different route: microscopic diamonds hone the floor itself, using water, until the surface reflects light again. These Clarke Gorilla diamond pads are cut to 14 x 20 inches for your Clarke FM40 orbital floor machine, and the FM40 brochure lists burnishing terrazzo, marble and concrete as one of its jobs.

They come 2 pads to a case, in four grits. Clarke's parts list gives each grit its own color:

Grit Color Part Number
800 White 56105748
1500 Yellow 56105749
3000 Green 56105750
8000 Orange 56105751

Which Diamond Pad Grit Do You Need?

Diamond pads work as a sequence. The coarse 800 grit takes out light scratches and dull traffic lanes. The 1500 and 3000 grits refine the surface step by step, and the 8000 grit brings up the final gloss. A worn floor usually needs the full run. A floor you already restored can stay on a routine of the finer grits to keep the shine. If your floor has deep scratches or lippage, it may need grinding first, which is beyond what an orbital machine is meant to do. For everyday scrubbing between polishing visits, the red and blue Clarke BOOST scrub pads fit the same deck.

Why Polish With Diamond Pads

  • Four grits, one machine. Work from 800 up to 8000 on the FM40, one pad change at a time.

  • Water instead of finish. The pads polish the stone or concrete itself, with no coating to strip later.

  • Cut to the FM40 deck. A full 14 x 20 inch rectangle that reaches right into corners and along walls.

  • Genuine Clarke part. The Gorilla pads listed by grit and color in the FM40 parts list.

Fitting the Pad

Lock the FM40 handle upright, tilt the machine back onto the handle, center the pad over the grip face and press until the hooks set. Diamond pads are normally run on a lightly wetted floor. Rinse the pad when you change grits so the coarser grit doesn't carry over. Pads are wear items and aren't covered by Nilfisk's machine warranty except for manufacturing defects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which diamond pad grit do I start with?

Start with the coarse 800 grit on a dull or lightly scratched floor, then step through 1500 and 3000 and finish with 8000 for the gloss. A floor that is already polished can stay on the finer grits.

How do I tell the grits apart?

Clarke's parts list gives each grit a color: 800 white, 1500 yellow, 3000 green and 8000 orange. Keep each case labeled by grit.

Which floors are these for?

Terrazzo, marble, natural stone and concrete. The FM40 brochure lists these floors for burnishing with the FM40.

How many pads are in a case?

Two pads of one grit.
