Duplex 420 Replacement Brushes: Pick the Bristle for Your Floor


Your Duplex 420 scrubs with two 14-inch cylindrical brushes that spin toward each other, and the bristle you fit decides what the machine is good at tonight. These are the original Duplex 420 brushes, graded from soft to stiff, for the corded DP 420 and the hybrid DH 420 and DHB 420.

The machine runs two brushes. Choose 1 Brush to replace a damaged one, or Set of 2 to change both sides at once so they wear evenly.


Which Duplex 420 Brush Do You Need?

  • Grey all-purpose (190104). The everyday brush in this range, with 0.025 in bristles. Daily cleaning on vinyl, VCT, sealed concrete, tile and most commercial carpet.

  • Yellow carpet (190102). The softest bristle at 0.015 in. Carpet, entrance mats and delicate floors.

  • Black deep scrub (190103). Stiffer 0.030 in bristles for heavy soil on hard floors and grout lines.

  • Hard bristle (190108). The most aggressive, at 0.050 in. Textured, non-slip and heavily soiled floors. Keep it off soft or finished surfaces.

NaceCare's newer Ultrabrushes in blue, yellow and red fit the same three machines, and the blue one is the brush NaceCare now lists as standard.


The Owner's Insights on Duplex 420 Brushes

I'd always change these as a pair. A fresh brush beside a worn one cleans unevenly, and you see it first in the grout lines.

If you clean both carpet and hard floor, a second set in a different bristle saves you from compromising. The grey brush handles most jobs; the yellow is for carpet you want to treat gently, and the black and hard bristle earn their place on soiled tile, grout and textured floors.

Which Duplex machines do these brushes fit?

The 14-inch Duplex 420 family: the corded DP 420, the DH 420 (with or without steam) and the battery DHB 420 and DHB 420 Deluxe. Duplex lists these brushes in its 420 hybrid parts list as well as for the DP 420. They don't fit the larger 620.

How many brushes does my machine need?

Two. Most owners replace both at once so they wear evenly, which is why there's a Set of 2 option.

These brushes or the Ultrabrushes?

Both fit the DP 420, DH 420 and DHB 420. NaceCare's current Duplex brochure lists the Ultrabrushes, blue (soft), yellow (medium) and red (maximum abrasion), as the 420's brushes, with blue as standard. The grey, yellow, black and hard bristle brushes on this page are the original Duplex range, still on NaceCare's 2026 price list. If you're replacing a pair, match what's on your machine now, or ask us and we'll help you choose.

When should I replace my brushes?

When the bristles have worn short, the machine cleans unevenly, or it starts leaving soil in grout lines and textured areas. Damaged or matted bristles are another sign.
