An office cleaner has 40 cubicles, two conference rooms and a reception area to vacuum before the building opens, and the machine gets carried up a flight of stairs halfway through. The Powr-Flite Solar PV030-W12-U weighs just 8.4 lbs, so the vacuum isn't what wears the crew out.
It runs a 660 W, 5.5 amp motor moving 115 cfm through a 12-inch nozzle that sets its own height. A 7.4 quart HEPA bag means fewer bag changes on a long route, and the 35-foot cord covers a good-sized room from one outlet. A toe switch on the nozzle turns it on and off without bending down.
I'd put the Solar on the cart for daily maintenance vacuuming: offices, classrooms, hotel corridors and small retail floors where the carpet gets walked on but not abused. Weight is the whole point. At 8.4 lbs, an operator can carry it up stairs, swing it under desks and lift it into a van all shift without a sore back.
Here's what you give up. There's no hose and no tools, so baseboards and vents need a second machine or a backpack. It's also loud at 79 dB(A), about the level of busy street traffic, so plan on running it after hours. If you need on-board tools and a HEPA exhaust filter, step up to the Rigel Pro.
8.4 lbs. Less than 9 lbs without the cord, easy to carry, push and store.
115 cfm from a 660 W motor. Plenty of airflow for daily carpet maintenance.
Automatic height adjustment. The nozzle floats from low pile carpet to hard floor on its own.
7.4 qt HEPA bag. 2-stage filtration and a big bag mean fewer changes per route.
Squeegee behind the brush roll. Cuts down on fine debris scattering across hard floors.
Toe-operated switch. On and off with your foot, right on the nozzle.
35 ft heavy-duty cord. Direct wire, 18/3 SJT.
A good fit: daily carpet passes in offices, classrooms, hotel corridors, small retail and church floors, and any route where the vacuum gets carried between floors or loaded into a vehicle.
Not the best fit: detail work on edges, vents and furniture (no hose or tools), heavily soiled entry carpet, or quiet occupied spaces during the day.
