The Viper Burnisher That Brings the Shine Back Between Strip Jobs

Looking for the low-speed Venom floor machine for scrubbing and stripping? That's the Viper Venom VN2015 (20 in, 175 RPM) or the VN1715 (17 in).

Your floors looked great the week after the finish went down. Now the main hallway is dull, scuffed and a little gray in the traffic lanes, and stripping again is weeks away. The Viper Venom VN1500 is the fix in between. It's a 20-inch high-speed floor burnisher that spins the pad at 1,500 RPM, fast enough to heat and polish cured floor finish back to a glossy, wet look in one pass.

A 1.5 hp DC rectified motor keeps the pad speed steady, and the 50 ft safety yellow cord reaches about 100 feet of hallway from one outlet. The frame is all metal, with two large transport wheels so one person can roll it from the closet to the floor. A flexible pad driver comes in the box, so you only need a 20-inch burnishing pad to start.

Want dust control and more speed? The Viper Dragon DR2000DC runs at 2,000 RPM and catches pad dust in a cloth bag, for $513 more.

The Owner's Insights on the Viper Venom VN1500

This is the burnisher I point people to when they want a dependable 1,500 RPM machine without paying for extras they won't use. There's not much to it, and that's the point: a red safety button on top of the handle, two squeeze triggers, and a handle you can let float so the pad finds its own level. Viper's manual says it burnishes best with the handle unlocked, and in my experience new operators get the hang of that in a few minutes.

The motor drives the pad through a belt and pulleys. That keeps the motor out of the pad's way, but the belt is a part that wears and can be swapped by a service tech when it starts to slip.

Now the honest part. There's no dust control, so plan to dust mop after you burnish. At 88 lbs it takes two people to lift into a van. And if your finish is made for ultra high speed, or you want the dust handled for you, the Viper Dragon DR2000DC is the better fit.

Why You'll Love the Viper Venom VN1500

  • True 1,500 RPM pad speed. High enough to polish cured finish to a shine, not just buff it.

  • 1.5 hp DC rectified motor. Holds its speed under load and runs on a standard 15 A, 110 V outlet.

  • All-metal construction. Built for nightly use in schools, stores and offices, not occasional weekend jobs.

  • Flexible pad driver included. Add a 20-inch burnishing pad and you're ready to work.

  • Safety lock-out switch and handle circuit breaker. The pad only spins while the safety button and a trigger are pressed.

  • 50 ft safety yellow cord. Easy to see on the floor, with fewer stops to change outlets.

Burnisher or Floor Buffer: Which One Do You Need?

They look alike, but they do different jobs. A floor buffer (low-speed floor machine) turns at about 175 RPM for scrubbing, stripping and spray buffing with liquid on the floor. A burnisher like the VN1500 turns at 1,500 RPM and works dry, polishing finish that's already down and cured. The VN1500 won't strip a floor, and a 175 RPM machine won't give you a high gloss.

Many facilities own both. If you strip and recoat in house, pair the VN1500 with the Viper Venom VN2015, a 20-inch 175 RPM floor machine at $1,250. You can browse every model in our floor burnishers collection and our floor machines collection.

1,500 RPM or 2,000 RPM?

A 1,500 RPM burnisher suits most standard floor finishes on vinyl composition tile (VCT) and handles daily or weekly burnishing well. Higher speeds like 2,000 RPM heat the finish faster and are what many ultra high speed finishes are designed for. Check your finish label: it usually lists the recommended burnishing speed. If it calls for 2,000 RPM or higher, look at the Viper Dragon DR2000DC. On a tighter budget for a 1,500 RPM machine, the EDIC Saturn SV starts at $1,532.

Pads, Parts and Care

Use 20-inch burnishing pads rated for at least 1,500 RPM. Our floor pad color chart shows which pads are made for burnishing. The pad holds on the flexible pad driver (Viper part VF99024D) with a center lock Viper calls the Big Mouth (VF99003A). Pad holders, belts and motor carbon brushes are wear items.

Care is simple. Unplug it after every job, wipe it down, check the cord for damage, and tilt the machine so the pad isn't resting on the floor when you store it. Viper's manual adds a monthly drop of water-resistant lubricant on the wheels, and blowing the motor clean with compressed air if you work in dusty areas. Plug it straight into a grounded outlet: the manual says never to use an extension cord with it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Viper VN1500 a burnisher or a floor buffer?

A burnisher. It spins the pad at 1,500 RPM to polish floor finish that's already down and cured. A low-speed floor machine like the Viper Venom VN2015 turns at 175 RPM for scrubbing and stripping. The VN1500 won't strip or scrub.

What pads does it take?

20-inch burnishing pads rated for at least 1,500 RPM. The pad locks onto the included flexible pad driver with the Big Mouth center lock. Tell us your floor finish and traffic and we'll suggest a pad.

Does it come with a pad driver?

Yes. Viper includes a flexible pad driver (part VF99024D). Pads are sold separately.

Can I spray buff with it?

No. Burnish dry on a clean, dry, fully cured floor. Liquid under a pad turning at 1,500 RPM slings and streaks. Spray buffing is a job for a low-speed or dual-speed floor machine.

Does the VN1500 have dust control?

No. Plan to dust mop after burnishing. If you want dust collected as you go, the Viper Dragon DR2000DC has passive dust control and runs at 2,000 RPM.

Can I use an extension cord?

No. Viper's manual says never to use an extension cord with the standard power cord. Plug the 50 ft cord into a grounded 110 V outlet and move outlets as you go.

Should the handle be locked or floating?

Either works, but Viper's manual says the machine burnishes best with the handle unlocked, or floating, so the pad can follow the floor.

What maintenance does it need?

Unplug and wipe it down after each job, check the cord for damage, and store it tilted so the pad isn't resting on the floor. Lubricate the wheels monthly with a water-resistant lubricant, check for loose nuts and bolts, and blow the motor clean with compressed air if you work in dusty areas. The drive belt is a wear part a service tech can replace.

How heavy is it?

88 lbs, with a 35 x 20 x 48 inch footprint. It ships at about 102 lbs. Plan on two people to lift it into a vehicle.

What warranty does the VN1500 have?

Nilfisk's current US limited warranty covers cord-electric burnishers for 3 years parts, 3 years labor and 1 year travel through an authorized service center. Viper's own product listing still shows 3 years parts and 2 years labor; we show the current Nilfisk terms. Pad holders, belts and carbon motor brushes are wear items, not covered except for manufacturing defects.
