A floor machine at 175 RPM strips and scrubs. It will not make a finished floor shine. For that you need a high speed burnisher, and the EDIC Saturn SV is the plain, heavy, all-steel kind: a 20-inch head, a 1.5 HP 66-frame DC rectified motor driving the pad through a multi-V belt, and 96 pounds of machine pressing the pad into the finish. Pick 1500 RPM or 2000 RPM; both cost the same.
EDIC builds the Saturn SV in Los Angeles from steel and stainless steel, powder coats the brush cover black, wraps the head in a non-marking PVC bumper and fits a 75-foot heavy-duty cord with a spring-steel strain relief. The flex-lock pad driver and a burnishing pad ship in the box, so the machine works the day it arrives, and EDIC backs it with 5 years on parts and labor.

Same frame, same motor, same 75-foot cord, same price. The only difference is the pulley ratio, so the pad turns at 1500 or 2000 revolutions per minute.
Saturn SV 1500 RPM, 20HS1500-BK-SV ($1,488). The safer all-round choice. It works with the widest range of burnishing pads, including natural hair pads rated from 1500 RPM, it is easier on a floor finish that is still curing, and it draws its 15 amps with a little more margin on an ordinary 120 V circuit. Pick it for schools, offices and retail floors that get burnished on a routine schedule.
Saturn SV 2000 RPM, 20HS2000-BK-SV ($1,488). More pad speed means more heat and more gloss per pass, so it brings up a deeper "wet look" faster and holds it on high traffic floors. It needs pads rated for 2000 RPM or more, a fully cured finish, and a circuit of its own. Pick it for big open floors, hospitals and grocery aisles where the shine is the point.
Both ship with the 2004BR flex-lock pad driver and a pad. Pads wear out, so plan on a case of 20-inch burnishing pads matched to the speed you choose; tell us your finish and traffic and we'll match the pad. The Saturn SV runs on 120 V only; EDIC makes a 230 V export version that we don't stock.

What I like about the Saturn SV is that there is nothing on it to break that isn't steel. The frame, the handle, the brush cover and the switch levers are metal, the bumper is PVC, and the belt drive means the motor bearings aren't taking the side loads that kill direct-drive burnishers. At 96 pounds it's heavy for an electric burnisher, and that is on purpose: the weight is what presses the pad into the finish and brings the gloss up in fewer passes. The 75-foot cord is 25 feet longer than most competitors give you, which on a long corridor is the difference between finishing the run and hunting for an outlet. And the flex-lock pad driver with the threaded center lock is the same design EDIC has used for years; it flexes to follow an uneven floor so you get an even shine instead of a stripe.
Now the honest part. There is no dust control skirt, so on a heavily scuffed floor you'll see burnishing dust; if that matters, the Powr-Flite Millennium NM2000DC has one. There is no handle-mounted circuit breaker either, and the 2000 RPM model pulls its 15 amps hard enough that it should be the only thing on the breaker. Ninety-six pounds is a two-person lift into a van. And this is a burnisher, not a buffer: it will not strip, scrub or spray buff, and running it on finish that hasn't cured, or on a wet floor, will burn the finish or lose you the machine. For most crews the 1500 RPM model is the one to buy unless you know you need the extra gloss.
1.5 HP DC rectified motor, belt driven. The 66-frame motor runs cool under continuous use, and the multi-V belt takes the strain off the bearings so the motor lasts longer.
96 pounds of down pressure. Heavier than most electric burnishers, so the pad bites the finish and the shine comes up faster.
All steel and stainless steel. Powder-coated black brush cover, steel frame and handle, non-marking PVC bumper for walls and furniture.

Foot-operated handle adjustment and anti-fatigue grips. Set the handle height with your foot, not a wrench, and burnish for hours without wrist strain.
Flex-lock pad driver and pad included. The 2004BR driver flexes to the floor for an even finish; a threaded center lock holds the pad.
5-inch non-marking wheels. Tilt it back and roll it to the next room; the motor is easy to reach for service.
To fit a pad, tilt the machine back onto its rear wheels until it rests on the handle, center a 20-inch pad on the pad driver, drop in the center lock and twist it clockwise until tight. Never use a pad larger than 20 inches. Lighter pads are less aggressive, darker pads more so; for a burnisher you want pads rated for the machine's speed, so ask us for a recommendation if you're not sure.
To start, lean the machine back so the pad is off the floor, put both hands on the grips, press the lock-out lever back with your right forefinger, then pull up on one side of the on/off lever. Give the motor about 5 seconds to reach full speed before you lower the pad. Work with the handle unlocked at about waist height, move in straight lines forward and back rather than swinging side to side, and start near the outlet and work outward. Release the levers and the machine stops.
Power: 120 V, 60 Hz, 15 amps. Give the burnisher its own circuit, especially the 2000 RPM model. If you must use an extension cord, EDIC allows a 12-gauge, three-wire grounded cord no longer than 25 feet. The 75-foot cord wraps under the cord hook and around the left grip for storage, and it should be fully unwound while you work.
Care is simple: unplug, wipe the machine down after every job, check the cord for cuts and loose prongs, and take the pad and pad driver off before storing so they don't deform. Keep it indoors and out of freezing temperatures, and never run it on a wet floor. The drive belt is adjustable with four motor bolts and two pairs of jam nuts, and the manual walks through it; don't over-tighten. The motor itself has no user-serviceable parts, so motor work goes to EDIC or an authorized service center.

A burnisher. It spins the pad at 1500 or 2000 RPM to polish floor finish that is already down and cured, which is what gives VCT and sealed floors the wet-look gloss. A floor buffer (floor machine) turns at around 175 RPM and handles stripping, scrubbing and spray buffing. The Saturn SV will not strip or scrub; for that, see the EDIC Saturn 175 RPM or the 180/320 dual speed machine.
They cost the same, so choose by the work. The 1500 RPM model is the safer all-round choice: it takes the widest range of pads, including natural hair pads, and it is a little gentler on finish. The 2000 RPM model puts more heat into the finish for a deeper gloss in fewer passes, but it needs pads rated for 2000 RPM or more, a fully cured finish and a circuit of its own. Most schools, offices and retail floors do well at 1500; big open floors where the shine is the point justify 2000.

No liquids while burnishing. A pad turning at 1500 to 2000 RPM atomizes anything wet, so spray buff clogs the pad and streaks the floor. Burnish dry on a clean, dry, fully cured floor. If you use a restorer, apply it with a mop or auto scrubber, let it dry completely, then burnish. Spray buffing is a job for a low speed floor machine.
A grounded 120 V, 60 Hz outlet. The motor draws 15 amps, so give the burnisher its own circuit and do not share it with a vacuum or auto scrubber; that goes double for the 2000 RPM model. If you must extend the 75-foot cord, EDIC's manual allows a 12-gauge, three-wire grounded cord no longer than 25 feet. EDIC also makes a 230 V version for export, which we do not stock.
No. There is no dust control skirt or vacuum on the Saturn SV. On a heavily scuffed floor you will see some burnishing dust, so dust mop afterwards. If dust control matters in your building, the Powr-Flite Millennium NM2000DC we sell has it built in.
The EDIC 2004BR flex-lock pad driver, and yes, it ships with the machine along with a pad. The driver flexes to follow an uneven floor so the shine is even, and a threaded center lock holds the pad; twist it clockwise to lock and counterclockwise to release. Replacement drivers are on our 2004BR page. The pad drivers for the Saturn low speed machines (1603BR, 1903BR) do not fit the burnisher.

Misuse voids it: using it outdoors or on wet floors, bypassing the lock-out lever, running it on the wrong voltage, using an extension cord over 25 feet or lighter than 12 gauge, or servicing it outside an EDIC authorized center. Keep the manual and register the machine.
