It's 6 a.m. in your school's main hallway. The VCT was stripped and refinished over the summer, and after three months of sneakers and rolling backpacks it looks flat and gray. There's no time for another strip and recoat before the first bell. The ICE iB1500 is a 20-inch high-speed floor burnisher for exactly that morning. Its 1.5 hp motor spins your pad at 1,500 RPM, and the heat and friction bring dull floor finish back to a high gloss in a pass or two.
It plugs into a standard 120-volt outlet and runs on a 50-foot safety yellow cord. At 62 dBA it's about as loud as a normal conversation (around 60 dB), so it can work while people are still in the building. Pull one pin and the handle folds flat for the closet. ICE backs it with a 5-year parts and labor warranty.
They look alike, but they do different jobs. A standard floor machine, often called a buffer, turns at around 175 RPM, like our Viper Venom VN2015. It scrubs, strips and spray buffs. A high-speed burnisher like the iB1500 turns at 1,500 RPM and does one thing well: it polishes floor finish that's already down. It won't strip or scrub your floor, and it needs a coat of finish to work on.

A corded electric burnisher like the iB1500 costs the least to buy and never runs out of charge. The catch is the cord. ICE says not to add an extension cord, so your reach is 50 feet from each outlet. That's fine for hallways, classrooms and store aisles. I'll be straight with you: the iB1500 isn't the cheapest 20-inch burnisher we sell. The Clarke Ultra Speed Pro 1500 and the Powr-Flite C1600-3 both cost less, and both put a good shine on a floor. What the extra money buys is ICE's 5-year parts and labor warranty and a quieter machine. If your crew burnishes while the building is occupied, or you'd rather not pay for a motor repair in year three, that's money well spent.
On day one, take ten minutes to set the pad pressure with the twist spring, on your own floor and with the pad you'll really use. Plan on two people to lift its 85 lb into a van. And it has no dust control, so if the fine dust from burnishing is a problem in your building, look at the Powr-Flite Millennium NM2000DC instead.

Safety lock-out and a handle breaker. The motor won't start until you press the blue safety button, and a 20-amp breaker sits in the handle.
Your iB1500 arrives with its 50-foot cord and a 19-inch pad driver. Burnishing pads aren't included, so order 20-inch high-speed burnishing pads with it. ICE asks for pads approved for burnishing, and we're glad to suggest one for your floor finish.
Plug it straight into a grounded 120-volt outlet, never through an extension cord. It draws 13.5 amps, so keep it off a circuit that's already feeding a vacuum or a space heater.
Running costs are modest. The motor drives the pad through a V-belt, and ICE's current parts list prices a replacement belt (part 5012605) at $18.42, a new 50-foot cord (4010320) at $239.20, the handle switch (4010308) at $55.26 and a 19-inch pad holder (9060020) at $254.00. Belts, cords, switches and pad drivers are wear items, so the warranty doesn't cover them.
Daily care takes a few minutes. Unplug the machine as soon as you finish, wipe it with a mild cleaner and check the cord for nicks. Once a month, lubricate the wheels with a water-resistant lubricant and check for loose bolts. In dusty buildings, take off the motor cover now and then and blow the motor clean with compressed air so it runs cooler. Store it upright with the cord wrapped on the handle.
