Square feet per hour. NaceCare rates the CRL 2128 at 43,300 square feet an hour and its 28-inch traction walk-behind, the TBL 2228T, at 31,000 on the same path width. That gap is speed: the ratings work out to about 3.5 mph riding against about 2.5 mph walking. After 30% to 50% for turns, refills and edges, plan on roughly 21,650 to 30,310 square feet an hour on the rider and 15,500 to 21,700 on the walk-behind.
Operator fatigue. Every 10,000 square feet at a 28-inch path is about 0.8 miles of passes. A walk-behind operator covers that on foot, steering and pushing, every night. On the CRL 2128 they sit, and a rested operator overlaps passes properly and doesn't skip the far end of the gym at 11 p.m.
The 28-inch path. Twenty-eight inches is as wide as walk-behinds usually get, so what the rider adds is speed and a seat, in a footprint that's still walk-behind sized. NaceCare's spec sheet lists the machine at 30 inches wide, but Numatic's owner manual gives 37.3 inches (948 mm) overall for this twin-brush model. Measure your narrowest door and elevator before you order.
When a walk-behind still wins. Floors under about 15,000 square feet a night, buildings that are mostly small rooms and restrooms, and heavy soil that needs more brush pressure. Price isn't the tiebreaker at 28 inches: the CRL 2128/50T costs $200 less than the TBL 2228/100T. If your floor is smaller, the 17-inch TGB 817NX costs $10,200 less and covers a mid-size route.
