Powr-Flite® Powr-Dryer PDS1 / PDS1DX Floor Dryer Air Mover, 3,800 FPM, 3-Speed, 1/2 HP

The night crew just scrubbed the cafeteria and shampooed the carpet in the front office, and both have to be dry before 6:30 a.m. The Powr-Flite Powr-Dryer pushes 3,800 feet per minute of air across the floor from a housing that weighs 22 lbs.
Its 1/2 HP motor draws only 4.4 amps, so more dryers fit on one circuit. Three speeds and three drying positions handle floors, fresh finish and walls, and Powr-Dryers stack up to four high in a closet. Choose the standard PDS1, or the PDS1DX with a pull handle and wheels.
Both run the same motor at the same 3,800 FPM, with the same amp draw, speeds, cord and warranty. The only difference is how you move it. Tap a picture to see it up close.

PDS1, standard. The compact 22 lb dryer with a kickstand. Pick it if dryers get carried a short way, ride in a van, or live stacked in a closet. At $259, it's also the easier way to buy several.

PDS1DX, with pull handle and wheels. The same dryer with a telescoping handle and wheels, so it rolls like carry-on luggage down long corridors and from room to room. $90 more than the PDS1.
Rule of thumb: if one person moves dryers across a big building every night, the handle and wheels pay for themselves in backs and time. If dryers mostly stay in one area or travel in a vehicle, the PDS1 is enough.
Most floor dryer decisions come down to amps and weight, and the Powr-Dryer does well on both. At 4.4 amps, three of them fit on a 15 amp circuit if nothing else is plugged in, and at 22 lbs a custodian can carry one in each hand. Lay it flat for carpet and scrubbed floors, tilt it on the kickstand for fresh finish, or stand it up to dry a wall.
Two honest notes. The motor has an automatic thermal cutoff: if dust blocks the vents, it shuts off and resets after 15 to 30 minutes, and Powr-Flite won't cover damage from blocked vents, so wipe the grills. And this is a dryer for routine work, not flood restoration. For drying a whole room after a leak, the F6 Downdraft moves far more air.
3,800 FPM air velocity. A 1/2 HP motor with three speed settings.
Only 4.4 amps. More dryers per circuit, fewer tripped breakers.
22 lbs, 17 x 16 x 18.5 in. Fits closets and the back of a van.
3 drying positions. Flat for floors, tilted on the kickstand for finish and paint, upright for walls.
Stackable. Up to four high for storage.
Co-polymer polypropylene housing. Powr-Flite backs it for 5 years.
20 ft cord. Standard 120 V grounded plug.
Made in the USA. Engineered and assembled by Powr-Flite in Fort Worth, Texas.
A good fit: custodial crews drying scrubbed or mopped floors, carpet cleaners drying after extraction, and floor crews speeding up finish coats in schools, offices, hotels and retail.
Not the best fit: water damage and flood drying, where a high-volume downdraft dryer clears the room faster.
Comparing compact dryers? The Tornado Windshear 3200 runs a 0.6 HP motor at 3,758 FPM with three speeds and an 18.5 ft cord, for $30 more than the PDS1. Its Safety version, with an extendable handle, wheels and a caution sleeve, is $333.
Need to chain dryers off one outlet? The Tornado Windshear Storm Deluxe links up to five units, at 3,400 FPM and 2.8 amps, for $299.
Drying a whole room after a leak? The Powr-Flite F6 Downdraft pulls warm air from above and pushes 3,500 CFM across the floor, for $340 more, and the Tornado Windshear Downdraft is $650.

Only how you move it. Both have the same 1/2 HP motor, 3,800 FPM, 4.4 amps, three speeds, kickstand and 20 ft cord. The PDS1DX adds a telescoping handle and wheels so one person can roll it between rooms. It costs $90 more.
Each dryer draws 4.4 amps. Three on a 15 amp circuit add up to about 13 amps, which works if nothing else shares the circuit; two leave comfortable headroom. Powr-Flite's manual asks for a GFCI-protected outlet.
Three: flat on the floor for carpet and scrubbed floors, tilted on the kickstand for floor finish and paint, and standing upright to dry walls.
Yes, up to four high for storage. Powr-Flite says not to stack them during transport unless they're strapped down.
The motor has an automatic-reset thermal sensor. If it overheats, usually from blocked air vents, it shuts off and restarts on its own after 15 to 30 minutes once it cools. Keep the inlet and outlet grills clean: Powr-Flite doesn't cover damage from blocked vents.
Powr-Flite backs the housing for 5 years and the motor, parts and workmanship for 1 year, on both the PDS1 and the PDS1DX.
