The runner by the elevator. The carpet just inside a hotel lobby door. The strip in front of the reception desk that catches every coffee drip. These areas are too big for a hand tool and too small to roll out a 100-pound extractor. The NaceCare AV 4X upright spotting extractor cleans an 11-inch path, and you control the spray with a twist of the handle grip.

Think of the AV 4X as a big spotter you push, not a small extractor. It has no brush. It sprays at 60 psi through a quick-release jet, and the 1.3 hp vacuum, with 100 inches of water lift and 106 cfm, pulls the water back up as you draw the machine toward you. On walk-off mats and lightly soiled traffic lanes, that's all you need.
For ground-in soil you need agitation. Pre-spray and work the spot with a carpet brush first, or step up to the AVB 4X, which adds a rotating cylindrical brush and a 2 hp vacuum. And 4-gallon tanks mean frequent refills on big areas, so I'd keep the AV 4X to lobbies, corridors and single rooms.
Twist-grip spray control. Turn the handle grip to spray and let go to stop, or set the pump switch for continuous flow.
11-inch path. Wide enough for hallways and lobbies, narrow enough for the space between chairs.
Squeegee on the vacuum shoe. Picks up solution from tile, LVT and other sealed floors.
Adjustable handle height. Set it for the person using it.
Two-piece tank. The recovery tank lifts off the solution tank for emptying and for the van.

With the 8-foot hose and hand tool. Adds NaceCare's 8-foot solution and vacuum hose (13008PE) and the 4-inch plastic hand tool (1112PPE), the pair NaceCare lists for the AV 4X. You pull the vacuum hose off the recovery dome and plug the accessory hose in its place, then connect its solution line to the quick coupler on the rear panel. Now you can clean stairs, spots and upholstery too. It adds about $320, the same as buying both separately.
Vacuum first. Fill the solution tank with hot clean water from a clean bucket or a faucet, then add a low-foam extraction chemical. With the pump switch in the first position, the spray only runs while you twist the hand grip. The second position gives you continuous flow.
Turn the vacuum on and pull the machine slowly backward, spraying as you go, then make a dry pass over the same strip. On hard floors the squeegee on the vacuum shoe picks up the solution, so a neutral cleaner and light spray work best.
When you're done, lift off the recovery tank to empty it, pour out any solution you didn't use and rinse both tanks. If foam starts building in the recovery tank, add defoamer before it reaches the motor.
