Powr-Flite® F5 Axial Fan Air Mover PDF5 / PDF5DX, 3,000 CFM, 2-Speed, 1/4 HP, GFCI Daisy Chain Outlet

A supply line let go over the weekend, and the carpet, pad and bottom of the drywall in the east wing are soaked. The Powr-Flite F5 is an axial air mover: instead of the narrow, fast jet of a carpet blower, its 16.5 inch blade pushes 3,000 cubic feet of air per minute across the whole room, so carpet, subfloor and walls dry together.
Its 1/4 HP motor draws only 2.2 amps, and the built-in GFCI outlet lets you daisy chain up to five F5s from one standard 15 amp outlet. Two speeds, four drying positions and a roto-molded housing that stacks for storage. Choose the standard PDF5, or the PDF5DX with a telescoping handle and wheels.
Both have the same motor, airflow, amp draw, GFCI outlet, drying positions and warranty. The only difference is how you move it. Tap a picture to see it up close.

PDF5, standard. The 37 lb fan with a molded carry handle and built-in cord wrap. Pick it if your fans ride in a van or trailer, get carried a short way and stack tight for transport. At $449, it's also the easier way to build a fleet.

PDF5DX, with handle and wheels. The same fan with a telescoping handle and wheels, 42 lb in all. It rolls like carry-on luggage down long hallways, across parking lots and from room to room. $41 more than the PDF5.
Rule of thumb: if one tech sets up fans across a big building or a long job site, the handle and wheels pay for themselves. If the fans mostly go from the van straight into one area, the PDF5 is enough.
When someone asks me for an air mover, my first question is what they're drying. A carpet blower like our Hybrid or the Powr-Dryer is great at pushing a fast stream of air across carpet after extraction. The F5 is the tool when water got into the structure: wet pad, subfloor, baseboards, the bottom foot of drywall, a whole basement. It moves a lot of air for the power it draws, and at 2.2 amps you can run a row of F5s from outlets that would trip with bigger fans.
Two honest notes. The F5 is bigger and heavier than a carpet blower, 37 lb for the PDF5, so it isn't the one to grab for a quick dry after spot cleaning. And Powr-Flite says not to run it on an extension cord, so plan your daisy chain from a wall outlet.
3,000 CFM. A 1/4 HP motor turning a 16.5 in blade, with 2 speeds.
Only 2.2 amps. More fans per circuit, fewer tripped breakers.
Built-in GFCI outlet. Daisy chain up to 5 F5s from one standard 15 amp outlet, protected by a resettable circuit breaker.
4 drying positions. Aim it across floors, up at walls or into cabinets and closets.
Stackable, with a built-in cord wrap. Up to five high for storage and transport.
Roto-molded polyethylene housing. Powr-Flite backs it for 10 years.
20 ft cord. Heavy 16/3 gauge.
Built in the USA. By Powr-Flite.
A good fit: water damage and restoration crews, carpet cleaners who also take flood calls, and facility teams drying out after a leak, a burst pipe or a deep extraction in schools, hotels, offices and apartments.
Not the best fit: routine carpet drying in occupied buildings, where a lighter, low-profile carpet blower is easier to carry and tuck out of the way.
Drying carpet after routine extraction? The Powr-Flite Hybrid pushes 3,400 FPM on 2.8 amps from an 18 lb, 11.5 in tall housing, from $270. The Powr-Flite Powr-Dryer runs a 1/2 HP motor at 3,800 FPM for $259.
Want warm air pulled down onto the floor? The Powr-Flite F6 Downdraft draws air from above and pushes 3,500 CFM across the floor, for $150 more than the PDF5, and the Tornado Windshear Downdraft is $650.
Need a smaller blower you can chain? The Tornado Windshear Storm Deluxe links up to five units at 3,400 FPM and 2.8 amps, for $299.

Only how you move it. Both have the same 1/4 HP motor, 3,000 CFM, 2.2 amps, two speeds, four positions, GFCI outlet and warranty. The PDF5DX adds a telescoping handle and wheels, which brings it to 42 lbs instead of 37. It costs $41 more.
Each F5 draws 2.2 amps, and the built-in GFCI outlet lets you daisy chain up to five of them from one standard 15 amp outlet, per Powr-Flite. Keep other loads off that circuit, and plug the first fan straight into the wall: Powr-Flite says not to use an extension cord.
CFM is how much air a fan moves, FPM is how fast it moves. Axial fans like the F5 move a large volume of air, which is what you want for drying a wet room, pad, subfloor and walls. Carpet blowers like the Powr-Flite Hybrid push a faster, narrower stream that works well across carpet after routine extraction.
Yes, up to five high for storage and transport, with the cord wrapped on the built-in cord wrap.
Yes, with the Powr-Flite PDF5C caster kit, four swivel casters with mounting hardware. If you're buying a new F5 and want it to roll, the PDF5DX with handle and wheels costs less than a PDF5 plus the kit.
Powr-Flite backs the roto-molded housing for 10 years and parts and labor for 1 year, on both the PDF5 and the PDF5DX.
