Every portable extractor job starts with the same question: how far is the carpet from the outlet and the sink? The Clarke EX20 package ships with a 15-foot hose set, which covers a classroom or a small office. For long hallways, stairwells and upper floors, a 25-foot set or an extension saves you from dragging an 87 lb machine up and down stairs.

Each assembly pairs a high pressure solution line with a crushproof vacuum hose, so you connect one set to the machine and the wand.

The Owner's Insights on the Clarke Hose Sets

If your 15-foot hose is worn out, the FP153 is the exact replacement. If you're buying to reach farther, look at the FP196 extension first: it adds 25 feet to the hose you already own. Just remember that Clarke's manual lists a longer hose than standard as one reason heated models lose temperature at the wand.

Which Carpet Cleaning Hose Do You Need?

• FP153, 15 ft set. The hose set that ships with the EX20 package. Replaces a worn or cut hose.

• FP195, 25 ft set. A longer primary hose for bigger rooms and corridors.

• FP196, 25 ft extension. Adds 25 ft to an existing hose set when the job is farther from the machine.

Hose Care

Clarke's manual says to flush the vacuum hose with warm water after each job and to inspect the hoses for damage. Wear gloves or use a rag when you release the quick disconnects on a heated machine, because the fittings get hot.
