ICE® RS28L-CY 28" Cylindrical Ride-On Lithium Battery Floor Scrubber - 29 gal

It's 5 a.m. in a distribution center. Forklifts left tire marks, shrink-wrap scraps and pallet splinters across 80,000 square feet of sealed concrete, and first shift starts at 7. A disc scrubber would push that debris around and choke on it, so somebody has to sweep first. The ICE RS28L-CY is a 28-inch cylindrical ride-on industrial floor scrubber that throws the small stuff into a debris tray and scrubs the floor in the same pass.

Its two 28-inch cylindrical brushes turn at 750 rpm with three pressure settings up to 110 lb, and ICE rates it at 49,500 square feet an hour. Take off 30 to 50% for turns, refills and dumping and you still clear 25,000 to 35,000 square feet an hour, with 29-gallon tanks and a sealed 24-volt lithium-ion battery that ICE guarantees for the life of the machine.

One programmable button lowers the deck and squeegee and starts everything, so a new operator is scrubbing on day one. And every RS28L-CY reports back through i-Synergy, ICE's fleet software, so you get a daily email showing where the machine was, how long it ran and how much floor it cleaned.

• Sealed lithium-ion, guaranteed for the life of the machine. No watering, no acid spills and no propped-open seat while it charges. ICE's warranty covers it for as long as the original buyer owns the machine, as long as it's registered with ICE and charged the way the manual says.

• i-Synergy fleet reports. The machine logs its location, run time, charging time and square footage, and ICE emails you a daily report you can forward to your client or your boss as proof the floor was cleaned.

• Fault alerts go to ICE. When a motor, the battery or the transaxle throws a fault, i-Synergy notifies ICE's service team, and the 7-inch touchscreen shows a yellow icon with a guided fix or a red icon that stops the machine until it's repaired.

I'll be straight with you: most of the price difference between this machine and a lead acid rider is the lithium battery and the software. If your crew forgets to water batteries, or you've already replaced a set of flooded batteries early, the lifetime lithium warranty alone can pay for the gap. If you run one shift in a building with an attentive crew, a lead acid rider will do fine for less.

Three practical notes. The squeegee is about 42 inches wide, wider than the 35-inch body, so measure your doorways with the squeegee in mind. With the battery it weighs about 740 lb, so plan a loading dock or a liftgate truck. And cylindrical brushes are the wear item that costs real money: ICE lists the standard 28-inch brush at $627.44 each and the machine runs two, so rotate them end to end and use the lowest pressure that gets the floor clean. They'll last a lot longer.

• Sweeps and scrubs in one pass. The cylindrical brushes flick light debris into a tray, so on most warehouse floors you can skip the separate sweeping run.

• 28-inch path at up to 4 mph. Big floors get done in a sitting instead of taking a whole shift on foot.

• 29-gallon tanks. Fewer trips to the drain and the faucet, which is where a lot of a rider's time really goes.

• Lithium battery for life. No watering, no acid and no replacement battery bill, as long as the machine stays registered and charged.

• One-button start and a 7-inch touchscreen. Training takes minutes, and faults show up on screen with a guided fix.

• On-board detergent mixing. The machine doses chemical from its own bottle at 1% to 5%, so your crew stops guessing at dilution.

Your RS28L-CY arrives with its lithium-ion battery installed, the on-board charger, the squeegee assembly and two 28-inch black polypropylene cylindrical brushes (ICE part 8216105), which suit most concrete and tile. For softer or more delicate floors ICE offers a soft white nylon brush (8216117, $1,018.34 each).

The rear squeegee blade comes in Linatex rubber (8310531, $102.14) or polyurethane (8310541, $165.84), with matching front blades at $76.72 and $108.44. ICE's squeegee guide recommends Linatex for polished and unpolished concrete, and polyurethane for oily floors, epoxy anti-slip coatings and rubber, where a rubber blade goes wavy or chatters. Brushes, blades, hoses and the charger are wear items, so the warranty doesn't cover them.

After every shift, raise the deck and squeegee, empty the debris tray, drain and rinse both tanks, rinse the vacuum filter, wipe the squeegee and turn the blade if the edge is worn, then plug it in. Once a week, clean the brush deck and the dust basket. Once a month, drain the solution tank, clean the detergent bottle and inline filter, check the cables and recovery lid seal, and grease the pivot points.
