The Mosquito 12-Gallon Carpet Extractor: Made-in-USA Box Extractor with 120, 220 or 500 PSI

Monday morning, a property manager calls. The second floor carpet needs a deep clean before new tenants move in Friday, and the stairwell has a coffee trail nobody owned up to. A self-contained walk-behind won't climb those stairs. The Mosquito 12-Gallon Extractor is a portable box extractor that will: 12-gallon solution and recovery tanks, a choice of 120, 220 or 500 PSI pumps, and a vacuum that shuts itself off before water can reach the motors.

Each pressure comes non-heated or with a 1,750-watt heater, and each one is sold as the machine only or as a package with Mosquito's 25 ft hose and dual jet wand kit. Mosquito designs, molds and assembles it in Huntington Beach, California.

The Owner's Insights on the Mosquito 12-Gallon

What sold me on this machine are the parts you only notice after a few hundred jobs. The vacuum tubes are molded into the tank, so there are no PVC elbows or glued joints to crack and leak. The vacuum shut-off is magnetic and trips when liquid is 9 inches from the inlet; Mosquito points out that many box extractors use a ball float, which lets water and foam get within about 3 inches of the air intake. You prime the pump by turning a valve on the control panel instead of hunting for an accessory hose, and there's an hour meter so you know when the pump is due for service.

Now the honest part. Mosquito doesn't publish a dry weight for the 120 to 500 PSI models (the 1200 PSI machine on the same body is 105 lb), so plan on two people or a ramp for a high van. The machine-only versions ship without hoses or a wand. And the heated models run on two 25 ft cords, which means two outlets on separate circuits.

My pick for most crews: the 220 PSI. It costs only $40 more than the 120 PSI and gives you room to push solution into heavy traffic lanes. Go 500 PSI if you also clean tile, grout or upholstery that needs more pressure.

Why You'll Love the Mosquito 12-Gallon

  • Three pressures, one body. 120 PSI or 220 PSI Aquatec pumps for routine carpet work, or an adjustable 500 PSI pump for heavier soil and hard floors.

  • Dual motors on the 120 and 220 PSI. Two 5.7 in 2-stage tangential vacuum motors in parallel: 90 in of lift and 160 CFM of airflow. The 500 PSI models use one 6.6 in high power motor with 145 in of lift.

  • Magnetic auto shut-off. The vacuum stops when liquid is 9 in from the inlet, so foam and water stay out of the motors.

  • 1,750 W heater option. A stainless steel heat exchanger with two 875 W elements and dual ceramic thermostats that hold temperature within about 9 degrees.

  • Everything on one panel. Vacuum, pump and heat switches, a pressure indicator, a priming valve, an hour meter and a dual circuit light that tells you both cords are on separate circuits.

  • Quieter exhaust. Mosquito's noise-diffusing exhaust manifold routes motor air through sound-absorbing material without adding back pressure.

  • Built to be serviced. Quick-release recovery tank port, dual cord wrap, non-marking semi-pneumatic wheels and a small upper wheel for loading.

120 vs 220 vs 500 PSI: Which Mosquito 12-Gallon Should You Buy?

All six share the same 12-gallon rotomolded body, tanks and controls. The difference is the pump, the vacuum motor and heat.

Machine Only or the Hose and Wand Package?

The machine-only units ship without hoses or a wand. The package adds Mosquito's 901-0010 complete hose and wand kit: a 25 ft 1-1/2 in vacuum hose, a 25 ft solution hose with quick disconnects and a 12 in stainless steel 2-bend dual jet wand with a brass valve. On every model it adds $520 to the machine-only price. Buy the machine only if you already own 1-1/2 in hoses and a wand with 1/4 in quick disconnects.

Mosquito also makes stainless hand tools (with or without a clear view head), a crevice tool, a 6 in detail tool, a 10 in stair tool and a retractable wand and hose holder for this machine. We can order any of them with your extractor: call or message us for a price.

Do You Need Heat?

Hot water breaks down oily soil faster, so you use less detergent and less water, and the carpet dries sooner. That matters most on greasy entrances, cafeterias and heavy traffic lanes. For light maintenance on carpet that's cleaned often, the non-heated models with a good pre-spray do the job for $949 less. Remember the heated models need two circuits.

Mosquito 12-Gallon vs Sandia Sniper and the Blue Line

The closest match in our store is the Sandia Sniper 12-Gallon 100 PSI, another made-in-USA box extractor with 12-gallon tanks, starting at $2,420 machine only with a 2,000 W heater option. The Mosquito 12G-1202 starts at $1,768 with 120 PSI and the magnetic shut-off. At 500 PSI, the Sniper 500 PSI starts at $3,658 against $3,071 for the 12G-6500.

If price matters most, Mosquito's own Blue Line 12-Gallon uses the same body with a single 2-stage vacuum motor and fewer premium extras, from $1,645. The 12-Gallon here keeps the dual motors on the 120 and 220 PSI models.

How to Use It

Fill the solution tank with clean water and a low-foam carpet extraction detergent, open the priming valve on the control panel until solution flows, then close it. Connect the vacuum hose and solution line, switch on the vacuum and pump, and on heated models give the heater a few minutes. Work in overlapping strokes, and add defoamer to the recovery tank if foam builds up.

Why Mosquito

Mosquito America is a small American manufacturer known for backpack vacuums, and it builds its extractors around the same idea: fewer parts that fail, and service you can do yourself. Mosquito's website lists a lifetime warranty on the body and 3 years on the motor and pump. Mosquito's older printed catalog lists 1 year on the motor and pump; the website terms are the current ones, and they're the ones we go by.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the 12G model numbers mean?

12G-1202 is 120 PSI, 12G-2202 is 220 PSI and 12G-6500 is 500 PSI. An H at the end (12G-1202H, 12G-2202H, 12G-6500H) means the model has the 1,750 W heater.

Does it come with hoses and a wand?

The machine-only versions don't. Pick the package above to add Mosquito's 901-0010 kit: 25 ft vacuum and solution hoses and a 12 in stainless steel 2-bend dual jet wand, for $520 more.

Do the heated models need two outlets?

Yes. Heated models have two 25 ft cords that must go on separate circuits; the dual circuit light on the panel confirms it. Non-heated models run on one cord.

120, 220 or 500 PSI: which should I choose?

120 PSI for routine maintenance, 220 PSI for most commercial carpet (it costs only $40 more), and 500 PSI for heavy soil, upholstery tools and occasional hard surface work. For daily tile and grout, choose the 12G-1200.

Why does the 500 PSI have less airflow than the 120 and 220?

The 120 and 220 PSI models use two 5.7 in 2-stage motors in parallel (160 CFM, 90 in lift). The 500 PSI uses one larger 6.6 in motor with more lift (145 in) but less airflow (135 CFM).

How does the automatic shut-off work?

A magnetic switch stops the vacuum motors when liquid in the recovery tank is 9 in from the vacuum inlet, so water and foam can't reach the motors. A light on the panel shows when the tank is full.

How do I prime the pump?

Turn the priming valve on the control panel until solution flows, then close it. There's no separate priming hose to carry.

Where is it made?

Mosquito designs, manufactures and assembles the 12-Gallon in Huntington Beach, California, USA.

What is the warranty?

Mosquito's website lists a lifetime warranty on the body and 3 years on the motor and pump. Mosquito's older printed catalog shows 1 year; the website terms are the current ones.
