The NaceCare NBV 290NX: A Cordless Canister Vacuum You Pull Like a Carry-On

Your night route covers three floors of offices, a training room and a long run of carpeted hallway. With a corded canister, half the shift goes to finding outlets and dragging cord around desks. The NaceCare NBV 290NX cordless canister vacuum runs on a 36-volt NX300 lithium battery for up to 90 minutes, rolls on large rear wheels, and pulls behind you on a telescopic handle like a carry-on bag.

It has the same 350-watt brushless motor as the NBV 240NX, with 75 cfm of airflow and 82 inches of water lift, and filters to 0.3 micron at 99.97%. What changes is the body: a 3.5-gallon structural foam tank and a lift-off caddy on top for spray bottles, cloths or a second battery. At 49 dB(A), it's quiet enough for daytime cleaning.

The Owner's Insights on the NBV 290NX

I'd pick the 290 over the 240 for one reason: the handle. On a long route, pulling a canister on its wheels beats bending down to drag it by the hose every few feet, and the caddy means one trip from the janitor's closet instead of two.

The trade-off is weight and size. At 23 lbs it's 5 lbs heavier than the NBV 240NX, so it's not the one I'd carry up and down stairs all night. It's a dry vacuum only, and 90 minutes is on the low setting; on high you get about 55. If your crew runs more than one battery's worth of floor, take the two-battery version and keep the spare in the caddy.

Why You'll Love the NBV 290NX Cordless Commercial Vacuum

  • Telescopic pull handle and big rear wheels. It rolls behind you between rooms and steadies on stairs.

  • Lift-off storage caddy. Carry supplies or a spare NX300 battery on the machine itself.

  • 3.5-gallon structural foam tank. A gallon more than the NBV 240NX, so fewer bag changes on long routes.

  • No cord, up to 90 minutes. Nothing stretched across a hallway for staff or visitors to trip on.

  • 49 dB(A). Normal conversation runs around 60 dB, so you can clean while the building is in use.

  • 350 W brushless motor, 2,800+ hour life. NaceCare backs the motor for 5 years on its spec sheet.

  • NX300 battery, 2,500+ cycles. About 10 years of daily use by NaceCare's estimate, and 80% charged in an hour.

Which Tool Kit Should You Pick?

Every NBV 290NX comes with one NX300 battery and a charger. Tap a picture to see each setup up close.

NBV 290NX with the AST2 kit: hose, telescopic wand and 12-inch combo floor tool

AST2, 12-inch combo floor tool. The standard kit at $1,549: a 9-foot hose, a 3-piece stainless steel telescopic wand and a combo tool that switches between carpet and hard floor.

NBV 290NX with the NaceCare 13-inch battery power brush

13-inch battery power brush. A motorized brush on its own 24-volt lithium power wand, with its own fast charger in the box, up to 50 minutes per charge. NaceCare lists this setup as CRI Silver approved. It costs $390 more than the AST2 and is the pick when carpet is most of the job.

One battery or two? A second NX300 in the box adds $575. Bought later on its own, the NX300 battery is $699. The spare rides in the caddy, and a 1-hour charge to 80% keeps up with a 55 to 90 minute run.

How Much Floor Does the NBV 290NX Clean on One Charge?

NaceCare rates it at 10,000 square feet an hour of nonstop passes. Take off 30% to 50% for furniture, edges and emptying, and plan on roughly 5,000 to 7,000 square feet an hour.

On the low setting, one charge covers about 7,500 to 10,500 square feet. On high, plan on 4,600 to 6,400. The 3.5-gallon tank means the bag usually outlasts the battery, so a battery swap is the only stop on most routes.

NBV 290NX vs NBV 240NX and the RBV 150NX

The NaceCare NBV 240NX has the same motor, battery and filtration in a 2.5-gallon, 18 lb body with no handle or caddy, for $150 less. Honestly, for single floors and lots of stairs it's the better machine. It's also the one to buy if you need certified HEPA, since the NBV 240NXH comes in that body only.

For stairs, fixed seating and tight furniture, the NaceCare RBV 150NX cordless backpack vacuum runs on the same NX300 battery. Or browse every type in our commercial vacuums collection.

Why You Should Consider a NaceCare Vacuum

NaceCare is Numatic's North American distributor, and Numatic has built its canister vacuums in England since the early 1980s, so parts and service aren't going anywhere. The NX300 battery runs a whole family of NaceCare vacuums and scrubbers, so one spare covers several machines. We're an authorized NaceCare retailer, so the full NaceCare warranty comes with every machine. Found a lower price? Call or message us and we'll beat it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the NBV 290NX and the NBV 240NX?

Same 350 W brushless motor, NX300 battery, airflow, filtration and 49 dB(A). The NBV 290NX has a bigger 3.5-gallon structural foam tank (the 240NX holds 2.5), a telescopic pull handle and a lift-off storage caddy. It weighs 23 lbs instead of 18.

Is there a HEPA version of the NBV 290NX?

No. The standard 290NX filters to 0.3 micron at 99.97%, which NaceCare says meets the HEPA spec for non-hazardous dust. If you need a certified HEPA filter, NaceCare offers it in the smaller body as the NBV 240NXH.

How long does the battery last?

Up to 90 minutes on low and about 55 on high, per NaceCare's spec sheet. The NX300 charges to 80% in 1 hour and 100% in 2, and NaceCare rates it at more than 2,500 cycles.

How much floor does one charge clean?

NaceCare rates it at 10,000 square feet an hour. Allowing 30% to 50% for furniture, edges and emptying, plan on about 7,500 to 10,500 square feet per charge on low and 4,600 to 6,400 on high.

What can I carry in the caddy?

The lift-off caddy sits on top of the machine. NaceCare designed it for cleaning supplies or a second NX300 battery, so a spare rides with you on the route.

Does it use the same battery as my other NaceCare machines?

Yes. The NX300 (913686) is shared across NaceCare's NX machines, including the NBV 240NX canister, the RBV 150NX backpack and the 220NX, 440NX, TGB 516NX and TGB 817NX scrubbers.

Can it pick up water?

No. The NBV 290NX is a dry vacuum only. For spills, look at a wet/dry vacuum.

What warranty does it have?

10 years on the body, 5 years on the motor per NaceCare's spec sheet, 4 years pro-rated on the NX300 battery (2 years exchange, then 2 years pro-rated), and 2 years on the charger, parts and labor.
