The NaceCare Steam-X: A Commercial Bed Bug Steamer for Hotels, Housing and Pest Control Pros

A guest in room 214 wakes up with a line of bites, and the room is off the market until it's treated. The NaceCare Steam-X bed bug steam gun plugs into the JS 1600C commercial steamer and runs its steam through a built-in 400-watt heater, super-heating it to 226°F (130°C) at the nozzle. You treat mattress seams, box springs, headboards and sofas with heat instead of pesticide, and there's no chemical residue left on the bed.

In a 2024 lab test by Entostudio in Italy, 4 seconds of steam from 8 inches (20 cm) knocked down every adult bed bug and nymph within 2 minutes, all were dead at 24 hours, and none of the treated eggs hatched over 7 days. A special nozzle softens the steam flow so the bugs aren't blown into the rest of the room.

The Owner's Insights on the Steam-X

What sets the Steam-X apart from an ordinary steam wand is the heater inside the gun. Steam cools as it travels down a hose, and this gun heats it back up right before it hits the mattress. Both buttons on the handle give the same gentle flow, so nobody has to guess the setting, and the 10-foot (3 m) hose lets you work around the bed while the steamer stays put.

Now the honest part. This is professional equipment for hotels, senior living, student housing, shelters and pest control companies. If you're a homeowner with one infested bedroom, a licensed pest control company is usually faster and cheaper. Steam only kills what it reaches, so it's one part of a treatment plan, along with washing bedding hot, vacuuming and a follow-up inspection 7 to 10 days later. The gun's heater also needs power of its own: NaceCare's manual has you plug it into a wall outlet, so plan on a second outlet near the steamer.

Why You'll Love the Steam-X Bed Bug Steam Gun

  • Built-in 400 W heater. Super-heats the steam to 226°F at the nozzle, where it does the work.

  • Lab tested on bed bugs and eggs. 100% of adults and nymphs dead at 24 hours, and no treated eggs hatched, in Entostudio's 2024 test.

  • Soft-flow nozzle. Kills bugs where they hide without blowing them into the next room.

  • No pesticide residue. Steam is just water, so there's nothing left on mattresses and upholstery.

  • 10-foot (3 m) steam hose. Reach around beds and headboards while the steamer stays in one spot.

  • Runs from the JS 1600C at full power. The same steamer cleans grout, kitchens and restrooms when it isn't fighting bed bugs.

Steam Gun Only or the Complete Bed Bug Kit?

The Steam-X can't make steam on its own. It needs the JS 1600C steamer. Tap a picture to see each option up close.

How to Use a Bed Bug Steamer the Right Way

Prepare the room. Strip the bed and wash the linens at 140°F (60°C) or hotter, clear clutter around the bed, and vacuum with a HEPA vacuum. Seal the vacuum debris in a plastic bag right away.

Heat up and purge. Fill the steamer, connect the Steam-X and wait 5 to 6 minutes for the steam ready light. Then release the first minute of steam into a container to clear condensation from the hose.

Treat slowly. Hold the nozzle about 8 inches (20 cm) away and move slowly over seams, tufts, piping, the box spring, bed frame joints, the headboard and nearby furniture, so the heat has time to soak in.

Dry and follow up. Ventilate the room so the treated spots dry completely. Bed bug eggs hatch in about 7 to 10 days, so inspect again then and repeat if you find any sign of activity.

Does Steam Really Kill Bed Bugs?

Yes, when the heat reaches them. NaceCare's treatment guide notes that bed bugs can't build up resistance to heat the way they can to insecticides, and that a few days at 122°F (50°C) is enough to kill them. The Steam-X delivers far more than that in seconds. The catch is reach: bugs hiding inside walls, outlets or furniture you can't steam won't be touched, which is why the guide pairs steam with inspection, sealing cracks and monitoring traps.

Why You Should Consider a NaceCare Bed Bug Steamer

NaceCare backs the Steam-X with an independent lab test report you can download and read. It's built in Italy by Tecnovap, the same maker as the JS 1600C, so the gun and the steamer are designed to work together. We're an authorized NaceCare retailer, so the full NaceCare warranty comes with every unit. Found a lower price? Call or message us and we'll beat it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Steam-X work on its own?

No. It's an accessory that turns steam into super-heated steam. It needs the NaceCare JS 1600C steamer running at full power. Choose the kit option if you don't already own one.

Will it work with my other steam cleaner?

NaceCare lists the JS 1600C as the compatible steamer. The maker's manual mentions other generators from the same Italian factory, but the plug has to match, so we can only confirm the JS 1600C.

How hot is the steam?

Up to 226°F (130°C) at the nozzle, thanks to the 400-watt heater in the gun. NaceCare's treatment guide notes that a few days at 122°F (50°C) already kills bed bugs.

Does it kill bed bug eggs?

In Entostudio's 2024 lab test, none of the 30 treated eggs hatched over 7 days, while all the untreated eggs hatched within 4 days. Adults and nymphs were 100% dead at 24 hours.

Is it safe on mattresses and upholstery?

NaceCare says it's safe on mattresses, sofas and other fabrics. Keep the nozzle about 8 inches (20 cm) away, keep moving, test a hidden spot first, and ventilate the room so everything dries.

Do I need a second outlet?

Plan on one. The gun's heater has its own power cord, and NaceCare's manual has you plug it into a wall outlet, separate from the steamer.

Is steam enough to get rid of bed bugs?

Steam kills the bugs and eggs it reaches. It works best as part of a plan: wash bedding hot, vacuum with a HEPA vacuum, steam, seal cracks, monitor with traps, and re-inspect 7 to 10 days later.

Is this a good bed bug steamer for my home?

It's professional equipment priced for hotels, housing providers and pest control companies. For a single home, a licensed pest control company is usually faster and cheaper.

What warranty does it have?

NaceCare's 2025 US warranty chart covers vapor cleaning equipment for 1 year on parts and labor.
