It's the second hour of the night shift, and whoever is steering the scrubber down the long main corridor is feeling it in their shoulders. The Viper AS5160T takes that load off. It's a walk-behind floor scrubber with a traction drive: a 150 W drive motor moves the machine forward (or backward) at up to 2.8 mph, so your operator steers and the machine does the walking.
It scrubs and dries a 20-inch path in one pass and carries 16-gallon solution and recovery tanks, so you refill and drain less often than on most 20-inch machines. You choose how it's powered: no batteries, wet, AGM or TPPL.

Wet batteries cost the least up front. They need their water level checked regularly and should be charged in a ventilated room with the tank open. On the AS5160T, the batteries also feed the 150 W drive motor, so capacity counts for more than on a pad-assist machine. That makes the 130 Ah pack the smart wet choice: 24% more capacity for $169 more.
AGM and TPPL batteries are sealed, so nobody has to top them up. On a machine that runs long routes every night, that's one less chore for the operator. No batteries makes sense if you already have a battery supplier. Buy deep-cycle batteries toward the top of the range, since the drive motor draws on them too. The compartment takes two 12 V batteries up to 13.8 x 13.8 x 11.8 in, and the manual lists 100 to 130 Ah as the range. The machine ships set for wet batteries, so AGM or gel needs a DIP switch change on the control board before the first charge.

The traction drive is the reason to buy this machine. Squeeze either handle switch and it rolls forward on its own, with a speed knob on the panel and a reverse switch for backing out of a dead end. On a 20-inch scrubber that sounds like a luxury, until your operator has pushed 491 pounds of loaded machine around a school for two hours.
The 16-gallon tanks are the other big deal at this price. That's about 52% more water than our Viper AS510B carries, which means fewer trips to the mop sink on long hallways.
Now the honest part. Viper rates it for smooth indoor hard floors and slopes up to 2%, so it isn't a ramp or parking garage machine. At 52 inches long with a 31-inch squeegee, it's too much for single restrooms and small break rooms. And if your floors are flat and your crew doesn't mind pushing, the non-traction Viper AS5160 costs about $900 less. A 30,000 square foot school wing is about a two to three hour job for one operator.
Viper doesn't publish a runtime per charge. Retailers list about 2.5 hours on the 130 Ah wet package, and actual time depends on pad pressure, speed and battery age.
Pads, Brushes and Running Costs
The AS5160T ships with a 20-inch pad driver, so it's ready for standard 20-inch floor pads. For grout and textured tile, add the 20-inch polypropylene disk brush (Viper part VF90417). Squeegee blades are the other wear item: front blade VF90119 and rear blade VF90120, both gum rubber. You can flip the rear blade to use a fresh edge before you replace it.
Daily care is quick: charge after every shift, rinse both tanks, and wipe the squeegee and pad. On a regular schedule, clean the float filter and solution filter, check the blades for wear, and check the water in wet batteries. The traction drive adds one service item: the manual lists a carbon brush check on the drive motor, done by an authorized service center along with the brush and vacuum motors.
