It's built like the rest of the CFP Pro line: all-metal construction, a cast aluminum chassis and an all-steel triple planetary gearbox. The difference is inside, where a DC rectified motor drives both speeds.

The speed switch sits right on the motor, so you flip it with the machine off, the way the manual requires. At 98 lb, it's actually lighter than the single-speed CFP Pro 20HD, and it still sits flat and steady on a stripping pad.

My honest note: 330 RPM is a buffing speed, not a burnishing speed. If you want that wet-look shine every night, you still need a 1,500 RPM machine like the Clarke Ultra Speed Pro 1500. And if your crew only strips and scrubs, the single-speed Clarke CFP Pro 20HD does that job for $823 less. The 20DS is for the crew that does both and has room for one machine.

Which Speed for Which Job?

High, 330 RPM: spray buffing and polishing a finished floor between full refinishes. The extra speed brings back more gloss than a 175 RPM machine can.

One rule from Clarke's manual: never change speed while the machine is running. Release the triggers, let the pad stop, flip the switch and start again.

Dual Speed Floor Machine or High-Speed Burnisher?

A 330 RPM spray buff restores a scuffed finish. A burnisher at 1,500 RPM or more gives the deep wet-look shine that hallways and retail floors keep between refinishes. If shine is the whole job, a burnisher is the better buy. If you scrub and strip too, the 20DS covers more work with one machine. Pads, Brushes and Running Costs

The 20DS takes standard 20-inch pads on its 19-inch pad driver. On most pad color charts, black is for stripping, blue or green for scrubbing, and red or white for spray buffing and polishing. Brushes attach with the same quarter-turn clutch plate.

Budget for pads as your main running cost. Nilfisk treats pad holders and brushes as wear items, so they're outside the machine warranty.
