A backpack vacuum lives or dies by how it feels at hour three. The EDIC Atlas weighs 9.8 lb (6 qt) or 10.8 lb (10 qt), and its padded harness puts that weight on your hips, with a 3-position hip adjustment for wider or narrower frames, chest and waist straps, and the on/off switch on the belt so you never reach behind you.
Under the lid is a 1,150 W motor pulling 130 CFM with 110 inches of waterlift, enough for carpet, hard floors, stairs, vents and high dusting. The longer exhaust chamber and diffused exhaust keep it to 65 dB and send the warm air out the back, away from the operator, which makes it a good fit for occupied offices, classrooms, hotels and healthcare spaces.
Filtration is 4 stages: EDIC's Ultrastat 3-ply disposable bag (antimicrobial treated, sonically welded seams, rigid plastic rim that seals), a washable cloth filter with a molded rim that won't collapse when the bag fills, a dome filter, and an exhaust foam. The Ultrastat bag keeps its airflow as it fills, so suction doesn't fade halfway through a route. Built in the USA from roto-molded polyethylene, with a lifetime warranty on the housing.
Same motor, same suction, same hose, cord and tool kit. The only differences are capacity, size and weight.
6 qt, 600TV ($513). 9.8 lb and 23.5 in tall. Better for smaller operators, stairs, detail work and jobs where a lighter pack matters more than fewer bag changes.
10 qt, 1000TV ($9 more). 10.8 lb and 25 in tall. Four more quarts before a bag change, which adds up on open offices, classrooms and long nightly routes.
EDIC 361AC standard tool kit: two-piece S-bend aluminum wand, scalloped carpet tool, crevice tool, 5 in upholstery tool with slide-on brush, and round dust brush.
4 ft static dissipating hose with swivel cuffs, so you don't get zapped on dry carpet.
50 ft detachable power cord with strain relief. A damaged cord swaps out without opening the vacuum.
Cloth filter, dome filter and Ultrastat disposable bags installed and ready to go.
Replacement bags and filters for both sizes are on our Atlas bags and filters page: 5-packs of Ultrastat bags start at $15.

Both use the same 1,150 W motor, so airflow (130 CFM), suction (110 in of waterlift), noise (65 dB), hose, cord and tool kit are identical. The 10 qt holds four more quarts of debris before a bag change and is 1 lb heavier (10.8 lb against 9.8 lb) and 1.5 in taller. Pick the 6 qt for smaller operators, detail work and stairs; pick the 10 qt for open offices, classrooms and long routes where fewer bag changes save time.
EDIC's 361AC standard tool kit: a two-piece S-bend aluminum wand, a scalloped carpet tool, a crevice tool, a 5 in upholstery tool with a slide-on brush and a round dust brush. You also get the 4 ft static dissipating hose with swivel cuffs, the 50 ft detachable power cord, the washable cloth filter, the dome filter and Ultrastat disposable bags to get started.
An Ultrastat disposable bag (L12005 for the 6 qt, L12007 for the 10 qt, 5 per pack) sits inside a washable cloth filter (L12009 for the 6 qt, L12010 for the 10 qt). Under them is the dome filter (K12019, both sizes); the 10 qt can also take the HEPA dome filter (K14830). The 5-pack bags replaced the older L12004 and L12006 part numbers. All of them are on our Atlas bags and filters page.
EDIC's manual says to check the disposable bag every time you start and finish, and on long jobs to stop about every two hours to empty or replace it. Wash the cloth filter by hand or machine once a month and line dry it (never in a dryer). Clean the dome filter and rinse the foam diffuser under the motor once a week. Lift the disposable bag and the cloth filter out together so a full bag doesn't tear.
EDIC's brochure describes the Atlas dome filter as using HEPA media, and EDIC sells a dedicated HEPA dome filter (K14830) for the 10 qt. The Atlas is not marketed as a sealed, certified HEPA system, though. If your work requires a certified HEPA or ULPA vacuum, such as lead abatement, ask us before ordering and we'll point you to the right machine.
No. The Atlas uses a thru-flow motor cooled by the air it vacuums, so it is for dry vacuuming only. Liquids, wet debris, fine powders such as drywall dust, and anything burning or flammable will damage it and void the warranty.
The Atlas ships with a 50 ft, 16 gauge detachable cord. If you need more reach, EDIC specifies a 14 gauge or heavier three-wire cord, and its manual says not to go past 50 ft of extension. Tuck the cord between your waist belt and your body so you feel it tighten before it pulls.
5 years on parts and labor and a lifetime warranty on the polyethylene housing. Normal wear items such as cords, hoses, switches, harnesses, filters and motor carbon brushes are excluded. Have the carbon brushes checked periodically and replaced when worn to 1/2 in.
Yes. EDIC used the part numbers 601TV and 601TV-HA for the 6 qt and 1001TV and 1001TV-HA for the 10 qt in earlier years. The current part numbers are 600TV and 1000TV.
