It's 2 p.m. and someone just knocked a latte onto the lobby carpet by the front desk. The next wave of guests arrives at 3. A towel only pushes it deeper, and the big extractor is two floors down in a locked closet. The Tornado Pro Spotter is the machine you roll out for exactly that moment: a 3.5-gallon carpet spotter that sprays at 55 psi and pulls the dirty water back up with 89 inches of water lift, so the spot is flushed and extracted in one visit instead of wicking back up tomorrow.

It weighs 35 pounds empty, rolls on 5-inch rear wheels with a telescoping handle, and takes up a 24 x 14 inch corner of a housekeeping closet. The Standard kit comes with a 13-foot hose and a 4-inch clear-sight upholstery tool for chairs, booths and car seats. Which One Do I Need: Pro Spotter or Pro Spotter Deluxe?

Both kits are the same machine: same 3.5-gallon solution tank, same 55 psi pump, same 2-stage vacuum motor at 104 CFM. What changes is what's on the end of the hose.

• Standard (#TE010-G03-U) if most of your spots are on fabric: upholstered chairs, restaurant booths, cubicle panels, church pew cushions, vehicle seats. You get a 13-foot hose with the 4-inch clear-sight upholstery tool, so you can watch the water coming up and stop when it runs clean.

• Deluxe (#TE011-G03-U) if most of your spots are on carpet. The 2-piece carpet wand lets you extract a hallway or stair landing standing up instead of on your knees. The 18-inch pre-spray wand runs on its own 35-foot hose and lays down spotter or pre-spray before you extract, with a fine atomizing tip for offices and a wider fan tip for bigger areas. You also get a metal detail tool on a 10-foot hose.

Two honest notes. The Deluxe's extraction hose is 10 feet, 3 feet shorter than the Standard's, so the machine sits closer to the work. And if you buy the Standard planning to add a carpet wand later, Tornado's spec sheet says the wand (PFX27) and the 5-inch combo tool (77019) only work on this unit with the 10-foot stretch hose X9058, so you'd be buying three parts instead of one kit.

The Owner's Insights on the Pro Spotter

What I like about this machine is that it's put together for the person who has to empty it. The recovery tank sits on top of the solution tank, unclips with two latches and lifts off, and it's shaped to stand on its own, so you're not balancing a sloshing bucket on the way to the sink. The clear lid shows you how full it is. When it's full, a float cuts the suction and you'll hear the motor note change. That's your cue to empty it.

Now the honest part. This is a spotter, not a room cleaner. The recovery tank holds 2.5 gallons and the solution isn't heated, so for a whole conference room or a restaurant's worth of carpet you want a box extractor or a self-contained machine. The Pro Spotter is the one you grab ten times a week for the stain that can't wait for the scheduled clean. Fill it with water no hotter than 140°F, keep defoamer in the recovery tank, and skip citrus cleaners, because Tornado's manual rules them out.

Setup, Care and Replacement Parts

Setup takes about a minute. Lift off the recovery tank, fill the solution tank to the fill line with water and your extraction chemical, and latch the tank back on. Snap the solution line into the quick-connect at the front and the vacuum hose into the inlet above the lid, set the 3-way switch to vacuum and pump, and give the pump about 30 seconds to prime.

After each job, empty and rinse both tanks, run clean water through the hose and tool, and store the machine with the recovery lid off so it dries. Weak spray almost always means a clogged solution filter or spray jet, and both rinse clean. On the Deluxe, a clogged spray tip can soak for an hour in 8 parts water to 1 part white vinegar.
