The NaceCare TP 18SX: An 18-Gallon Portable Carpet Extractor for Big Commercial Jobs

The hotel ballroom is booked again at 7 a.m., and coffee went down the main aisle and onto the carpeted stairs to the mezzanine. The NaceCare TP 18SX portable carpet extractor carries 18 gallons of solution, enough to work the aisle, every tread and the spots in between on one fill, with a wand that gets into the corners and edges.

It's a box extractor: a 130 psi diaphragm pump sprays through the wand, and a 1.8 hp, three-stage vacuum motor with 135 inches of water lift pulls the dirty water back. A 20-foot solution and vacuum hose and a stainless 3-jet wand come in the box, ready for stairs, corners, upholstery and rooms full of furniture.

The Owner's Insights on the TP 18SX

The tank size is the reason to pick the TP 18SX over a smaller box. At the full 1.2 gallons a minute, 18 gallons is about 15 minutes of steady spraying per fill, and in real work with pauses that stretches to most of an hour. On a ballroom, a church sanctuary or a long office floor, that means far fewer trips to the sink.

It weighs 92 pounds empty, but the upper and lower tanks come apart, so it loads into a van as two pieces instead of one heavy lift. It rolls on casters and parks while you work the wand.

One honest note: a box extractor is a wand machine. NaceCare rates it at 800 square feet an hour, and for big open carpet, a walk-behind like the AV 18SX covers about five times that. The TP 18SX earns its keep on stairs, corridors, offices with furniture, upholstery and restoration jobs.

Why You'll Love the TP 18SX Commercial Carpet Extractor

  • 18-gallon tanks. Fewer refills and dumps on large carpeted areas and restoration jobs.

  • 130 psi diaphragm pump with bypass. Strong, steady spray at up to 1.2 gallons a minute to flush soil out of the pile.

  • 135 inches of water lift. Pulls more water back out of the carpet, so it dries sooner.

  • Wand and 20-foot hose included. Ready for stairs, corners and upholstery the day it arrives.

  • Tanks split for transport. The upper and lower tanks detach, so one person can load it in two trips.

  • Heater and Smart Kit ready. Add hot water and onboard pre-spray as a package, or later.

Which Wand and Package Should You Pick?

Pick the wand first, then the package. Every option ships with the same machine and the 20-foot solution and vacuum hose.

Stainless steel 3-jet carpet wand with hand grip

3-jet stainless wand (standard). The wand most crews use for everyday extraction, with a hand grip and three spray jets.

NaceCare premium 2-jet stainless carpet wand

Premium 2-jet wand. NaceCare's premium wand in place of the 3-jet one. It adds $354, and the machine is the same.

TP 18SX box extractor with the HT 1800 in-line heater

With the HT 1800 heater. An in-line heater that bolts to the control panel and warms the solution on its way to the wand, for greasy entryways, cafeterias and restaurants. It adds $1,046. It has its own cord and must plug into an outlet on a different circuit from the machine.

Smart Kit chemical holder with a jug of carpet chemical

With the Smart Kit pre-spray. NaceCare's onboard pre-spray system: a gun, a 50-foot pre-spray hose and a chemical holder that doses straight from the jug. Only clean water runs through the pump, and you can switch between pre-spray, restorative and low-moisture maintenance cleaning. It adds $1,269.

Heater and Smart Kit together is the full restoration setup. Not sure what you need? Tell us your carpet type, square footage and how dirty it gets, or call (855) 601-5678, and we'll tell you, including when the machine alone is enough.

Is a Portable Carpet Extractor Right for Your Building?

NaceCare rates the TP 18SX at 800 square feet an hour. With refills and moving furniture, plan on about 500 to 600, so a 2,000 square foot meeting room is a three to four hour job for one person. That's slower than a walk-behind, but nothing else gets onto stairs, under desks and along baseboards as well.

A box extractor fits best when your carpet is broken up: hotels with hallways and stairwells, churches with pews and steps, schools with classrooms full of furniture, and contract cleaners who move between accounts. If most of your carpet is big open areas, look at a walk-behind instead and keep a box extractor for detail work.

Two habits protect the vacuum motor. Use a low-foam chemical and add defoamer to the recovery tank if foam appears. After each job, empty both tanks, run clean water through the pump, and store it with the recovery dome off so it dries.

TP 18SX or Another Carpet Extractor?

The TP 18SX costs $2,895 with the wand and hose. Here's how it compares with other extractors we sell.

Smaller jobs, lighter machine. The NaceCare TP 8X has the same 130 psi pump, wand and 20-foot hose with 8-gallon tanks, weighs 49 pounds and costs $700 less.

Higher pressure and lift. The EDIC Galaxy Pro 2700 runs a 220 psi pump with dual vacuum motors and 190 inches of lift, and its base model costs $46 less than the TP 18SX. It doesn't include a wand, and for heavy restoration work it's the stronger machine.

Big open carpet. The NaceCare AV 18SX carries the same 18 gallons in a walk-behind rated at 4,000 square feet an hour, for $2,900 more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a box extractor and a walk-behind?

A box extractor like the TP 18SX stays parked while you clean with a wand or hand tool on a hose. A walk-behind has the brush and vacuum head built in and cleans as you push it. Box extractors are slower on open carpet but reach stairs, corners, upholstery and furnished rooms that a walk-behind can't.

Does the TP 18SX come with a wand and hose?

Yes. Every TP 18SX ships with a 20-foot solution and vacuum hose and a wand: the stainless 3-jet wand as standard, or the premium 2-jet wand if you choose that option.

Does it heat the water?

Not on its own. Choose a package with the HT 1800 in-line heater, which mounts on the machine with the brackets in its box. The heater has its own power cord and must plug into an outlet on a different circuit from the extractor, or the breaker will trip.

What does the Smart Kit do?

It adds an onboard pre-spray system: a gun, a pre-spray hose and a chemical dispenser that meters straight from the jug. Only clean water runs through the pump, and a valve switches between pre-spray, restorative and low-moisture maintenance cleaning.

How heavy is it, and can one person move it?

It weighs 92 pounds empty. The upper and lower tanks separate, so one person can load it into a van in two pieces, and it rolls on casters on the job.

Can I clean upholstery and stairs with it?

Yes. Use the wand on stairs, or add a 4-inch hand tool for upholstery, car seats and tight spots. We sell NaceCare's aluminum and plastic hand tools separately.

How do I look after it?

Use a low-foam chemical and add defoamer to the recovery tank if foam appears. After each job, empty both tanks, run clean water through the pump and store it with the recovery dome off. Clean the water filter every couple of months and have the carbon brushes checked after about 500 hours. Wash wool carpet with cold water only.

What warranty does the TP 18SX have?

Under NaceCare's 2025 US warranty chart for carpet extractors: 10 years on the polyethylene tanks, 2 years on motors, switches and electrical parts, and 2 years labor.
