NaceCare AV 12QX Quiet Walk-Behind Carpet Extractor, 12 Gallon, 20"

It's 11 p.m. on a hotel floor, and the hallway carpet needs a deep clean before checkout traffic starts. A loud extractor means complaints from every room you pass. The NaceCare AV 12QX walk-behind carpet extractor runs at 60 dB(A), about the level of normal conversation, so your crew can work at night without waking the guests.
It's a self-contained commercial carpet extractor: it sprays, scrubs with its own brush and pulls the water back up in one forward pass. You walk behind it instead of dragging it backward, which is how NaceCare rates it at 4,000 square feet an hour, nearly three times a standard pull-back extractor.
Under the hood: a 1.8 hp, three-stage vacuum motor with 135 inches of water lift and 95 cfm, a 130 psi diaphragm pump flowing up to 1.2 gallons a minute, a 20-inch cleaning path and 12-gallon solution and recovery tanks.
The thing people notice first is the sound. At 60 dB(A), the AV 12QX is 10 decibels quieter than its 18-gallon siblings. That's why I'd put it in hotels, hospitals, senior living and any building that's never empty.
The second thing is the walk-behind layout. With a pull-back machine, you clean a stripe, back up over it and repeat. Here you just walk forward. The two tanks split apart, so two people can lift it into a van as two pieces instead of wrestling one 121-pound unit.
Be honest about two things. It's a corded machine with a 50-foot cord, so plan your outlets. And 12 gallons is the smaller tank: at the full 1.2 gallons a minute, you're refilling after about 10 minutes of spraying. For long corridors and ballrooms, the 18-gallon models below save trips to the sink.
60 dB(A). Quiet enough to clean hallways and patient areas while people are nearby.
Walk-behind, forward cleaning. One pass sprays, brushes and extracts, rated at 4,000 sq ft an hour with less operator fatigue.
135 inches of water lift. Strong recovery means carpets dry faster and reopen sooner.
Lock-down, spring-loaded vacuum shoe. It keeps steady pressure on thick pile and uneven floors, so pickup stays consistent.
Removable spray bar with twist-off jets. A clogged jet comes off by hand, no tools.
Two-piece rotomolded polyethylene tanks. They separate for transport and won't dent or rust.
Hard floor ready. Swap the carpet shoe for the optional squeegee (18270E) and it scrubs and dries tile too.
Machine only. Cold-water extraction with the built-in spray bar and brush. It's the right fit for routine interim cleaning with a good low-foam chemical.
With the HT 1800 heater. An 1,800-watt in-line heater that mounts at the rear and warms the solution on the way to the spray bar. Hot water breaks down greasy soil faster, which matters in restaurants, food courts and entryways. It adds $1,046. The heater has its own power cord and draws about 15 amps on its own, so plug it into an outlet on a different circuit from the machine.

With the Smart Kit pre-spray. NaceCare's patented onboard kit turns the pump into a pre-spray system, with a 50-foot pre-spray hose and gun. The chemical is injected after the pump, so only clean water runs through it and nothing builds up inside. There's no mixing and the dilution is always right. It also adds a low-flow mode for interim cleaning and faster dry times. It adds $1,269.
With the heater and Smart Kit. The full restorative setup: heated solution plus pre-spray, for heavily soiled carpet you clean on a schedule.
Not sure which you need? Tell us your carpet type, square footage and how dirty it gets, or call (855) 601-5678, and we'll tell you, including when the machine alone is enough.
NaceCare rates it at 4,000 square feet an hour. That's nonstop forward passes. After 30% to 50% for refills, emptying, edges and moving furniture, plan on about 2,000 to 2,800 square feet an hour. A 10,000 square foot office floor is roughly a four to five hour job for one operator.
Two habits keep the motor healthy. If your chemical foams, or the carpet was shampooed before, add defoamer to the recovery tank. And at the end of the shift, flush the pump with clean water, rinse the recovery tank, run the vacuum for a minute or two and store it with the recovery dome off so it dries out.
All three share the same 20-inch path, 1.8 hp vacuum motor, 130 psi pump and accessories. The differences are tank size, noise and drive.
AV 12QX: 12-gallon tanks, 60 dB(A), 121 lbs. The quiet one, for occupied buildings.
AV 18SX: 18-gallon tanks, 70 dB(A), 140 lbs, brush-assisted. About 50% more water per fill for $445 more.
AV 18AX: the 18SX with a 0.75 hp traction drive, so it pulls itself forward. It costs $2,345 more than the AV 12QX.
If most of your carpet is in small rooms and offices, a pull-back machine like the Tornado Marathon 1200 costs less. You can also compare every option in our commercial carpet extractors collection.
NaceCare backs its carpet extractors with 10 years on the polyethylene tanks and 2 years on motors, switches, electrical parts and labor, per its 2025 US warranty chart. NaceCare rates it at 60 dB(A), about the level of normal conversation and 10 decibels quieter than the AV 18SX and AV 18AX. That's why it suits hotels, hospitals and other buildings that are occupied while you clean.
A pull-back extractor cleans while you pull it toward you, then you push it forward and repeat. A walk-behind like the AV 12QX cleans while moving forward, so every pass counts. NaceCare rates it at 4,000 sq ft an hour, nearly three times a standard pull-back unit.
Not on its own. Choose the package with the HT 1800 heater, an 1,800-watt in-line heater that mounts at the rear. The heater has its own power cord and draws about 15 amps, so it needs an outlet on a different circuit from the machine.
It turns the pump into an onboard pre-spray system with a 50-foot hose and gun. The chemical is injected after the pump, so only clean water passes through it and nothing builds up. There's no mixing, the dilution is always right, and it adds a low-flow mode for interim cleaning and faster drying.
Yes, with accessories sold separately. You connect the 20-foot solution and vac hose (13020PE) to a hand tool or wand, such as the 3-jet stainless wand (12300PE) or the premium 2-jet wand (8020070).
Yes. Remove the carpet shoe, fit the optional hard floor squeegee (18270E) and lower the brush housing to its lowest setting. Don't use the hard floor brush on carpet.
Add defoamer to the recovery tank if your chemical foams or the carpet was shampooed before. After each use, empty both tanks, run clean water through the pump, rinse the recovery tank, run the vacuum for a minute or two and store it with the recovery dome off. Wash wool carpet with cold water only.
