NaceCare AV 18AX Self-Propelled Walk-Behind Carpet Extractor, 18 Gallon, 20"

It's the third hour of extracting a convention hall, and your operator's shoulders are done. Pushing 140 pounds of wet carpet machine across thousands of square feet wears anyone down. The NaceCare AV 18AX has a 0.75 hp traction drive: press the lever and it pulls itself forward at the speed you set, while the operator just steers.
It's a self-contained commercial carpet extractor that sprays, scrubs with its own brush and vacuums the water back up in one forward pass. With 18-gallon tanks and steady machine-set travel speed, NaceCare rates it at 4,000 square feet an hour, nearly three times a standard pull-back extractor.
The core matches the rest of the AV line: a 1.8 hp, three-stage vacuum motor with 135 inches of water lift and 95 cfm, a 130 psi diaphragm pump flowing up to 1.2 gallons a minute and a 20-inch cleaning path.
The drive is simple. A knob sets the speed from 0 to 10 (NaceCare suggests starting at 4 or 5), and you push down a lever by the handle to go. Let go and it stops. That even pace matters more than people think, because a steady speed means even solution and even drying, pass after pass.
Two things to know before you buy. It only drives forward: to pull it back, you switch the drive off and move it by hand. And 143 pounds is real weight, though the upper and lower tanks separate so it loads as two pieces.
Who should pay for the drive? Crews that extract big open carpet for hours at a stretch: hotels, conference centers, schools in summer, contract cleaners. For a couple of hours a week, the AV 18SX is the same machine without the motor, and it costs less.
0.75 hp traction drive with speed control. The machine sets the pace, so the operator steers instead of pushing.
18-gallon tanks. About 15 minutes of spraying per fill at the full 1.2 gpm, so fewer trips to the sink.
135 inches of water lift. Strong recovery leaves less water in the carpet, so it dries sooner.
Lock-down, spring-loaded vacuum shoe. Steady pressure on thick pile and uneven floors keeps pickup consistent.
Removable spray bar with twist-off jets. Clear a clogged jet by hand, no tools.
Rotomolded polyethylene tanks with a 10-year warranty. No dents, no rust, and they separate for transport.
NaceCare's Smart Kit demo, filmed on the smaller AV 12QX. The kit works the same way on the AV 18AX.
Machine only. Cold-water extraction with the built-in spray bar and brush, for routine interim cleaning with a low-foam chemical.
With the HT 1800 heater. An 1,800-watt in-line heater that mounts at the rear and warms the solution on its way to the spray bar. Hot water breaks down greasy soil faster in entryways, food courts and hotel corridors. It adds $1,046. The heater has its own power cord and draws about 15 amps on its own, so plug it into an outlet on a different circuit from the machine.
With the Smart Kit pre-spray. NaceCare's patented onboard kit turns the pump into a pre-spray system, with a 50-foot pre-spray hose and gun. The chemical is injected after the pump, so only clean water runs through it and nothing builds up inside. There's no mixing and the dilution is always right. It also adds a low-flow mode for interim cleaning and faster dry times. It adds $1,269.
With the heater and Smart Kit. The full restorative setup, for heavily soiled carpet on a deep-clean schedule.
Not sure which you need? Tell us your carpet type, square footage and how dirty it gets, or call (855) 601-5678, and we'll tell you, including when the machine alone is enough.
NaceCare rates it at 4,000 square feet an hour of nonstop forward passes. After 30% to 50% for refills, emptying, edges and furniture, plan on about 2,000 to 2,800 square feet an hour. On a 20,000 square foot ballroom, that's roughly a full shift for one operator, and the drive is what keeps that operator going.
Protect the vacuum motor: add defoamer to the recovery tank if your chemical foams or the carpet was shampooed before. After each shift, flush the pump with clean water, rinse the recovery tank and store it with the lid open so it dries.
All three share the same 20-inch path, 1.8 hp vacuum motor, 130 psi pump and accessories.
AV 18AX: 18-gallon tanks, 0.75 hp traction drive, 143 lbs, 70 dB(A).
AV 18SX: the same 18-gallon machine, brush-assisted instead of driven, for $1,900 less.
AV 12QX: 12-gallon tanks and quieter at 60 dB(A), for hotels and hospitals at night. It costs $2,345 less than the AV 18AX.

Set the speed with the knob from 0 to 10 (NaceCare suggests starting at 4 or 5), then push down the lever by the handle and the machine drives forward. Release the lever and it stops. The drive is forward only: to pull the machine back, switch the drive motor off first.
They share the same tanks, vacuum motor, pump, brush and accessories. The AV 18AX adds a 0.75 hp traction drive, so it pulls itself forward at a set speed. The AV 18SX is brush-assisted and pushed by the operator.
At the full 1.2 gallons a minute, about 15 minutes of continuous spraying. In low-flow interim mode with the Smart Kit, longer.
Not on its own. Choose the package with the HT 1800 heater, an 1,800-watt in-line heater that mounts at the rear. It has its own power cord and draws about 15 amps, so plug it into an outlet on a different circuit from the machine.
It turns the pump into an onboard pre-spray system with a 50-foot hose and gun. The chemical is injected after the pump, so only clean water passes through it. There's no mixing, the dilution is always right, and it adds a low-flow mode for interim cleaning and faster drying.
NaceCare lists its hard floor squeegee (18270E) for the AV 12QX and AV 18SX only, not the AV 18AX. If hard floors are part of the job, look at the AV 18SX or a floor scrubber.
Yes, with the 20-foot solution and vac hose (13020PE) and a wand or hand tool, such as the 3-jet stainless wand (12300PE) or the premium 2-jet wand (8020070). Sold separately.
