Picture a detail bay with three cars waiting, or a hotel with 40 chairs and a stairwell to clean before check-in. Heated Glidemaster kit, 500BX-HRH-WK ($3,109). Adds the 2,000 W Heat N Run heater with its own 50-foot cord, a 25-foot vacuum and solution hose set, and EDIC's dual-jet stainless steel S-bend Glidemaster wand. The workhorse choice for carpeted rooms.
Heated Triton kit, 500BX-HRH-TK ($475 more than the Glidemaster kit). Same heater and hoses, with the lighter dual-jet Triton wand instead. Worth it if the same person pushes a wand for hours every day.

The Galaxy 5 is the machine I point detailers and small cleaning crews to when they ask for "a real extractor that one person can lift." At 57 lb it goes into a hatchback, and the 5-gallon tank cleans two or three car interiors or a set of stairs before you refill. The 120 psi pump is stronger than the pump in the bigger Galaxy 2000 SX, and the 3-stage vacuum, with 30 more inches of waterlift than the Bravo, is what keeps seats from staying wet. The body opens like a clamshell, so a clogged filter or a pump swap is a screwdriver job, and the "no drip" motor cavity means a spill on top stays out of the electronics.
Now the honest part. Four gallons of recovery means you'll dump often on a big room; if most of your work is open carpet, the Galaxy 2000 costs only a few hundred dollars more and carries three times the water. The heated kits need two outlets on two separate circuits, one for the machine and one for the 2,000 W heater. And the stock cord is 25 feet, so in a large building you'll be hopping outlets or adding a 12-gauge extension cord.

Fill the 5-gallon solution tank with properly mixed solution plus defoamer, push the vacuum hose cuff onto the port at the top rear, click the solution hose onto the brass quick-connect at the bottom rear, and close the drain valve. On the first run, or after the machine has sat dry, prime the pump with the short hose that ships inside the solution tank: it takes 5 to 25 seconds. Switch on the vacuum, then the pump, one at a time so you don't trip a breaker.
With the heater fitted, run water through the wand before you switch the heater on, and never run it dry. The manual caps fill water at 135°F, and the heater takes solution the rest of the way, to about 190 to 200°F by EDIC's figures. Plug the machine and the heater into outlets on separate circuits.
The Galaxy 5 uses EDIC's Glidemaster-family hoses and tools: the 15 ft (1040AC-HP) and 25 ft (2540AC-HP) high-pressure hose assemblies, the 10-inch stainless wand (330-11003FB), the stainless upholstery tool (1039-9502FB), the crevice tool (1038-8002FB), the pre-spray wand (323ACH) and the 12-inch Powermate power brush (1204ACH). EDIC's manual is blunt about it: use EDIC wands, because other brands' tools can over-wet the carpet and starve the pump of pressure.
After each job, flush a gallon of clean hot water through the wand, rinse the float screen and the solution strainer, empty the recovery tank and run the vacuum for 3 to 5 minutes with the lid open to dry the motor. Once a month, flush the solution lines with one part white vinegar to three parts water. Don't store it anywhere that freezes, and don't dry vacuum with it; there's no dust filter.

The 500BX-HR ships without a heater but has the plumbing and mounting plate for EDIC's Heat N Run 2,000 W external heater. You can buy the plain machine now and add the heater later, or order one of the two heated kits on this page, which include it. Because the heater sits outside the body, it keeps heat away from the vacuum and pump motors and comes off in seconds for service.
If you already own Galaxy hoses and wands, or you mainly clean upholstery with a hand tool, the machine-only 500BX-HR is enough. If you'll clean carpet, choose a kit: the 500BX-HRH-WK comes with the heater, a 25 ft hose set and the stainless dual-jet Glidemaster wand; the 500BX-HRH-TK swaps in the lighter Triton wand. Neither kit includes an upholstery tool.
Yes, it's the size EDIC recommends for detailers: 57 lb, 5 gallons of solution, 120 psi and a 3-stage vacuum with 136 in of waterlift, enough to flush and recover water from car carpet and seats. Pair it with EDIC's stainless upholstery tool and crevice tool. If you only spot-clean interiors, the smaller EDIC Bravo costs less; if you also clean whole rooms of carpet, look at the Galaxy 2000.
Two. EDIC's manual says to plug the machine and the 2,000 W heater into outlets on separate circuits. The machine has a 25 ft detachable cord and the heater has its own 50 ft cord. If you need an extension cord for the machine, use a 3-prong, 12-gauge or heavier cord.
EDIC lists the optional heater at a consistent 190°F on the spec sheet and up to 200°F on its website. Fill water must not exceed 135°F; the heater takes it the rest of the way. Always run water through the wand before you turn the heater on, and never run it dry, or the warranty is void.
EDIC's current spec sheet and website list 120 psi for the 500BX-HR. The older kits sheet says 100 psi, which was the pump in the earlier 500BX. We list 120 psi; if the exact figure matters for your work, ask us and we'll confirm with EDIC before you order.

Connect it to the brass fitting on the back, put the other end in the vacuum port, run the pump and vacuum for 5 to 25 seconds until the flow has no bubbles, and you're at full pressure.
