EDIC® Galaxy Automotive Heated Auto Detailing Extractor, 5 Gal (Galaxy 5) or 12 Gal (Auto 3000), 120 PSI, 1000 W Heater

Most "auto detailing extractors" are a carpet machine with the word automotive added to the listing. You still have to buy the heater, the hose and a hand tool before you can clean a seat. EDIC builds two extractors specifically for detail bays and dealership recon shops, and both arrive ready to work: the Galaxy 5 Automotive (539BX-EH), a 5-gallon, 57 lb box that one person lifts into a hatchback, and the Galaxy Auto 3000 (3139BX-EH), a 12-gallon unit that cleans a row of interiors between refills.

Each ships with EDIC's 602HR 1,000-watt in-line heater mounted on the back, a 15-foot vacuum and solution hose assembly and a stainless steel detailing tool. The heater runs off the machine's own power, so it is single cord operation: one 15-amp outlet, no second circuit to hunt for in a customer's garage. Water comes out of the tool at about 170°F, which is what breaks down the coffee, sunscreen and body oils that cold water leaves behind.

Under the hood both share a low-flow 120 psi pump and a single 3-stage vacuum motor. Low flow matters in a car: it puts less water into foam-backed seats and carpet, so the vacuum pulls it back out and the interior is dry for delivery in hours, not overnight. EDIC makes them in the USA from rotomolded polyethylene and backs them with 5 years on parts and labor and a lifetime warranty on the housing and the stainless heater chamber.

Same pump, same vacuum, same heater, same hose and tool. The choice is how much water you want to carry and where the machine has to go.

• Galaxy 5 Automotive, 539BX-EH ($2,621). 5-gallon solution tank, 3-gallon recovery, 57 lb with a fold-down handle and 7-inch rear wheels. Pick it for mobile detailing, a small shop, or anywhere the extractor rides in a vehicle or up a step. Five gallons cleans two to three interiors before a refill.

• Galaxy Auto 3000, 3139BX-EH ($399 more). 12-gallon solution tank, 11-gallon recovery, 88 lb on 10-inch wheels and 4-inch locking casters, with a 50-foot cord. Pick it for a fixed bay, a dealership recon line or a fleet yard, where you park it once and work through the lot. It also has the tank size to run a carpet wand on the customer lounge afterwards.

Both include the 1040AC-HPB 15 ft hose assembly ($161 on its own if you want a spare) and EDIC's 1039-9502FB stainless steel upholstery tool. Add EDIC's crevice tool for seat tracks and console gaps; tell us what you clean and we'll match the tools.

• Single cord operation. The 1,000 W heater plugs into the machine, not the wall. One 15 A outlet runs the pump, the vacuum and the heat.

• 170°F on demand. EDIC's in-line heater brings solution to temperature in about 90 seconds and holds it there while you work. Hot water is what lifts oils and grime from foam-backed seats.

• Low-flow 120 psi pump. Enough pressure to flush ground-in soil, low enough flow that seats and carpet come out damp, not soaked, so the interior dries faster.

• Ready to clean out of the box. 15 ft hose assembly and stainless steel upholstery tool included. No accessory shopping before the first job.

• External stainless heater that comes off in seconds. Heat lives outside the body, so the motors stay cool, and if the heater ever needs service it unbolts without taking the machine out of the bay. The heating chamber carries a lifetime warranty.

• Clamshell body, "no drip" motor cavity, quiet silencer system. Easy to service, safe when water spills on top, and quiet enough for an indoor showroom bay.

Fill the solution tank with properly mixed solution (fill water no hotter than 130°F) and add defoamer to the recovery tank. Seat the heater's two feet in the brackets on the back of the machine, connect its inlet hose to the machine's solution quick disconnect, and plug its twist-lock cord into the heater port. Push the 15-foot vacuum hose onto the inlet barb, click the solution line onto the heater outlet, attach the detailing tool, and plug the machine into a 15-amp outlet. If you must use an extension cord, keep it to 25 feet of 12-gauge, 3-wire cord.

Switch the pump on first and spray through the tool for 10 to 15 seconds until you have a steady stream, so the heater is full of water. Only then switch the heater on; running it dry trips its high-temperature breaker and voids the warranty. Give it up to three minutes on the first heat-up. The green lamp goes out when it's at temperature and cycles on and off as the thermostat holds it.

Pre-vacuum the interior with a dry vac (these extractors have no dry filter), pre-spray heavily soiled areas, then pull the tool slowly toward you with the trigger pressed and follow with a dry pass. Use as little solution as the soil needs; over-wetting is what leaves a car smelling damp on delivery. Test fabric dyes in a hidden spot first. The Auto 3000 drains through a valve at the back; use a clean bucket for refills so you don't cross-contaminate.

After each day, run two gallons of clean hot water through the wand or tool for a minute, rinse the recovery tank's float screen and the solution strainer, empty both tanks and wipe the machine down. Check hoses and cords weekly, and expect pump seals and valves to want attention around 1,000 hours if pressure drops. Never store it where it freezes; the heater and pump won't survive it.

Both machines take EDIC's Galaxy hoses and tools: the 1040AC-HPB 15 ft hose assembly, the 1039-9502FB stainless upholstery tool, the 1038-8002FB stainless crevice tool, the 1037AC see-through upholstery tool and, for carpeted areas, the 330-11003FB 10-inch stainless wand. EDIC's manuals are firm about using EDIC tools: other brands' jets can over-wet the fabric and starve the pump of pressure.
